Well it is now almost 1am...all back together, took a bloody age to pour the STP down the hole! (didn't see the warming up posts till just know - feck it)

So, on refit, I poured STP into the pump through the oil outlet to the cooler....fitted the cover, spent a fecking age cleaning the floor from the STP that dribbled out of the port!!....filled up trough the oil pressure switch hole with the funnel arrangement....reassembled the front end...pushed the car off the ramps, pushed her outside, filled the oil sump, filled the coolant....fired her up...

took about 3-5 seconds for the oil light to go out, a few more seconds for the top end to stop rattling....then ran her at 2k rpm for 10 minutes (adjusted the throttle cable - buggered if I'm gonna stand there foot on pedal!)....

Went into the workshop and cleaned up more of that STP stuff off the floor!...sticky and thick!

periodically checking the car...no issues!

Then dropped the car to idle and monitored for 15 minutes while I ensured the cooling system was burped and bled...still no lamp!!!

Now gonna lock up the workshop and do the 24 odd mile journey home (stopping off to get something to eat - I'm starved) and see what happens!

Will report back when I get home!

So home now, took the long route back through the towns with loads of traffic lights to slow me down and sit at idle for periods....

Happy to report that the lamp did not show itself once!! Yippee.....

It is now 2.45am and i am off to bed....

Time to think about doing the whole top end, but that can wait a bit...need sleep!

Are you going to put the test gauge on or leave well alone ? If the top end is quiet, whip the rocker covers off and check for oil at the rockers. If it's there leave it, get your money back and celebrate.:D:D

Cheers guys....the longest part (which is why it took so long) was pouring STP down the oil cooler outlet port into the pump while the front cover was upside down!

As it is so thick and sticky, it took ages for each blob to go down into the pump... That probably took almost 2 hours, as I didn't want to take the pump backplate off incase I disturbed something.

Then an age to pour STP down a hose and funnel into the main gallery of the front cover.

Just gotta decide if and when to do the top half....I do have a single noisy tappet and after 179k miles, that cam is most likely flat....so it could do with it!

Just gotta read up about setting the preload on the rockers a bit more first and go from there.

Bet thats a job he wont be rushing to do again:D
well done Ant looks like you got to the bottom of the problem.
