Use your drill to stitch drill around the bolt then beat the crap out of it to free it off.

It'll take a while as yourll need to drill 7 or 8 holes around it but it'll work.
 
Time to borrow some extension cables or a cordless grinder or an axe:eek:

Hamilton doesn't really have any decent hardware shops. Closest I've got is homebase or Halfords and, well...

Last thing I want to do is remove even more of the fuel tank mount. At least at the moment there's still something holding it up
 
Still needing a hand btw. I wouldn't be asking if I already hadn't tried absolutely everything else and didn't need it running.
 
Been trying that mate, absolutely nothing will shift them. Sharpened the chisel to try and cut through it and still nothing
Bear in mind I'm not standing looking at it but is there any way you can wedge/hold something like the chisel against a bolt and jack it with a bottle jack or something against a chassis rail maybe..?
 
Nope, if it was that accessible getting an angle grinder in wouldn't be a problem, if I had somewhere to plug it in that is.
 
There is no bolt head as such, it's just a rusted mess. I think there's supposed to be some kind of captive plate holding the bolts in place but if it's anything like the other one it'll be useless. Other one was accessible though. Tried mole grips on it and whacking them with a hammer but there's just not enough for them to get a good grip on
 
drill the nut until it's mangled and whack it off.

is it worth saving the fuel mount? you could have chopped the rusty chassis and mount off and welded some new metal on by now.
 
If you stich drill around it tightly there will be sufficient material left to support the tank with some big washers

Then you can weld it up proper when you sort your crossmember
 
I can come up this weekend with a Genny, and welder etc to get it sorted if you haven't by then

Could always rig up an other captive type plate ...

a small length of angle iron... drill holes ... tack on the nuts

Well I'm thinking whack the welder on max and just vapourise the thing off

I could bring the plasma cutter but I don't think it would like my normal Genny and don't want to damage it. Got the new towable Genny with biiigg sockets! But no transformer yet

Great idea. Except I can't use power tools!!!
Got them, tried them. Even those slip off it. Which is surprising as they've worked brilliantly on loads of other nuts and bolts
