Im looking at a pretty worn out 1986 defender 110 country with 250xxx miles. Aside from a well used v8 motor its a pretty solid truck; Minor door and floor rust/rot as always, but all frame and bulkhead pieces are solid. If I ended up with this the first thing I would do is rebuild the entire motor. Is it a particularly tough motor to rebuild, and is it even worth 10900 pounds as it is?
 
Without seeing it I'd say that's twice the maximum I'd consider paying for an '86 OneTen (not Defender). The appeal of the v8 is slightly negated by the high mileage of it. I'd keep searching.
 
Depends if it's an original v8 station wagon. £11000 is too much unless it's completely original yet still road worthy and drive able and you're a collector.
Pre defenders ie 90's and 110's are starting to enter the status of classics where originality will always fetch more money.

Without seeing it id say the guy selling is trying his luck after hearing how valuable land rovers now are.

The v8's aren't difficult to rebuild but compared to the diesels Land Rover made later (200tdi and 300tdi) they aren't as robust. The v8 will also do about 16mpg if you're lucky so an LPG conversion makes it a little easier to run. But for that money you could get an immaculate Tdi 110 or even a really tidy td5 both have similar power as the v8 and the td5 can be tuned to have a lot more. Diesels just sound better in a Land Rover.

If you added one too many zeros then for £1090 it sounds like a bargain.

The price is way too high for a UK buyer. However, to legally import it into the US it has to meet a few criteria which makes it hard to source the right vehicle - over 25 years old, completely original etc. How many 25 year old V8s still have their first engine/gearbox/chassis? - not many. Once imported and if well sorted out, it could be worth $50000, which makes the £10k UK price seem attractive.
