Yeah 800, it needs a new centre exhaust/possibly get away with welding the bracket back on, tailgate handle is a mess, been glued on and the no. plate light is all hanging out and stuff, 3 window regulators are dead can hear the cables chewing up. The under tray/sump guard is hanging of, might not be complete I'm not sure. It need the window tint crap taking off the rest of the windows. And some general cleaning up. Plus the coolant level was low, could be using water/could just need topping up, there was no signs of any mayo anywhere though..

All very fixable stuff, but I reckon there's about £300ish of parts after servicing it and stuff without doing the head (may not need it) I reckon it will be worth a grand with it all sorted?

New handle is £100 plus
door regulators are £40 - £50 if you get them complete
Exhaust parts £70 - £100
Get a garage to do it and and the cost will be double.
You can fix all of these for a fraction of the cost but your time has a value too.
The guy is asking too much for a fixer upper that might be worth a maximum £1k after all the work is done.

I agree, came to the same rough price list as you. Happy to do all the work myself, just not keen on paying that much for a car that needs that much work doing!

See what else comes up....

You can fix the handle and I've shown photos of how I did that in the past (and probably the gaping hole behind it), replace the cables instead of the full regulator and if it's only the hook missing on the exhaust then welding a replacement is easy.
If the rest of the car is good then it is worth working on but not at the price he is asking.

Glad you agree, he won't budge so it'll leave it with him!
Got another to go look at tomorrow hopefully. Not as many toys but far less miles.

Another thing I have noticed... There appears to be alot of 'special editions' with nothing particularly special about them...?

I think those were dealer "special editions", often called that to sell basic models through at inflated prices. I ignore such trickery and buy on condition and equipment levels.

I thought as much. One I'm going to see is perfect bar heated leather.. I have never had that on any car so can easily do without! Might just get some decent seat covers or something if the cloth isn't great.

Anyone used and good seat covers they could recommend incase?

Mines an ESX without heated leather and is pretty dam cold in winter,
Might look for some covers over summer myself.
Main thing is getting good ones that dont slide about when you get in and out.
Dave

Are they colder than any other car?

Out of interest, anyone have a rough real world mpg comparison between a k and the V6? I think the only thing I'd miss from.my BMW is my lazy auto!

Unheated leather feels cold in winter, but hot in summer.

Only the KV6 and TD4 are available with an automatic box.

MPG wise, there's about 10 MPG difference between the KV6 and 4K. However it's like comparing apples to pears, as they are very different to drive. My personal favourite is the KV6, although I currently drive a TD4 auto, simply because it uses less fuel.

Approximate figures are:
TD4 manual ~ 36 Mpg.
TD4 auto ~ 29 Mpg.
KV6 auto ~ 19 Mpg.
K4 manual ~ 28 Mpg.
L series manual ~ 38 Mpg.

Yeah, im leaning away from diesel (baaaa ) but do love auto's. I think that mpg is just too low for me to justify though. The difference between the td4 auto and the K4 is absorbed by fuel price differences.

The main reason for me wanting the K4 is the super simplicity and cheapness to maintain. I would love the V6 though. I have a hatred for 4cyl... Rough and don't sound nice.. But as we know they are hugely popular! I'd prefer 3 cylinders!

My old Daihatsu was a 1L 3 pot - super little wagon while we had it :)

I work late shift till midnight out on a peat-moss so its always 3=4 degrees colder and them
leather seats will make your eyes water:eek:.
Dave

Yeah the japs love a 3 pot! I think they are great. Gf's smart car is 3 pot turbo and it sounds great. Smoother than a 4 pot too, unless it's just that engine..

Haha yeah actually Dave I remember my 5 series had leather and it was a bit cold when you first got in! Soon warms up though. The worst was the thick pleather in my defender! Compromised by the fact the car never actually gets warm either....

Well I bought it! Needed to get something soon and that was the cheapest for the spec level.

First and main issue, the exhaust is rubbing on the front prop-ird flange. Makes a right old racket! Hopefully get under it later and see what's a miss. Need to sort driver's door window regulator and maybe the Aircon needs a regas too.

I drove about 50 miles home on the m62 and M60, got back and checked the VCU temp, warm but perfectly touchable. OWU test pending..
