Not done spray painting before and have been told by numerous peoplethat Cellulose is more forgiving for an amiture like me. But didn't know if enamel is tougher for the undercarriage.:confused::what:

cellulose is thinner and requires better primimg and rubbing down with wet dry between, but is easier to use, 10% thinners and away yer go, 30psi on the compressor , its all about practice, i hadnt done much till the yello series only old tractors and trailers, get a good gun and have a play, hvlp gravity guns yer best bet,

ere stu, christians a sprayer at landrover now int he ?

Trying to get him down and help, he does all the sealing pre spray but does body mopping on the side. What did you use on yours?

cellulose top coat, cellulose highbuild primer, 2pack aluminium etch primer, bout £650 woth, had 3 etch, 4 highbuild coats and 6 top, cut between coats with wet and dry

go for red oxide for chassis and three coats of cheap matt black, then under seal, its far softer and forgiving than a hard enamell like hammerite, i sprayed my axles in 6 coats of hammerite ontop of fred oxide, its chipping now with stones etc... yer could say it was too harder a finish, if i stripped any more to bare metal id take them to atlas at hixon and powder coat them, tis only a tenner !

Right then, need a colour for the chassis and axles, not black please :D

The roof, bumpers and sliders will be black the rest a bark blue, not decided on a final colour yet:confused:

am doin me next chassis silver aluminium paint, looks like galv :) with red axles and stuff, then those yellow brit part HD springs and shocks..... if yer see where am goin

Mine was in the same state Stu. Funny thing was that after I cleaned everything up for repair, my heart lifted as it did look a lot better even with no welding done. My footwells were the same, but a doddle to weld.

If I remember, I'll maybe post some photos to make you feel better!

That's my line of thought Ad, think I will use Polyurethane paint:confused:

Lorri, the rust and repairs aint bothering me, its the cost of the shopping list  Pics would be good though :D the wife has just bought a horse trailer which I have to fetch :car: got to use my focus though as my towing vehicle is the star of this thread :crazy_driver:

The boss did give me a 2.5m/1m/2mm sheet of steel as he was board of moving it :D bit rusty but not as bad as the footwells:rolleyes:

Any more colour Ideas :pop2:

Dunno, but may mate gave me a tin of Hammerite Blue and We thought it was dark blue. Turns out it is very light blue...kinda like the Reliant Robins used to be. Awful! Avoid!

Anyway, I spent a day and a half just beavering away on fabrication and was amazed at how many bits I can get sorted. Cleaning and cutting takes the time.

If it turns out that blue then I will get the sand blaster out and take it off

It has taken me long enough to strip it down, still got half day left I think. Got the bits for the sills so will start on them, then might swap the gear box as I have sold the old auto so can buy some more parts then :scratching_chin: Think I have all the bits to fit the LT77 in, apart from the bits that go around the gear sticks!!

ere stu, dunno if yer got a pipe flair kit, but i have the dogs bollox, sykes pickervant kit , £300 worth, can do 3/16" (standard) brake pipe in steel or copper up to 1/2" or 3/4" if yer need any bits makin up have to let us kno,
