The modern diesel engine is under that much pressure through design to produce max power, max economy and minimum emissions.... As we know but unfortunately the very high quality components needed to achieve this aren't budgeted into the build. A warranted "lifetime" expectancy is what is budgeted for... Life expectancy for most vehicles is around ten years before stuff like seats for example, start to break down and sensors start to give up. Throttle flaps and swirl flap motors.. Seen the price of theses things!!!!
My Volvo has a peugeot engine and box. The 2.0 hdi 16v unit. A bloody good engine, no dpf nonsense either but still has 1200€ worth of injectors... I'll keep my bus and the temperamental Volvo I think....
