The axle swap went ahead... kind of... I dropped the old one off then went to fit the new one to find its a non-abs so I'm currently having an eBay dispute with the manc #### that sold it as an ABS axle... he wants me to pay for postage back at £65 to have it palleted... that puts me £130 out of pocket on postage costs for his error, I may have to bite the bullet n keep it then rebuild mine before the mot is up if he doesn't grow a set and admit he sold me the wrong axle!

Remembered I didn't put this up previously... another purchase from the newbury autojumble:
Chequer plate door card
Alloy door handle - off my old mini
camo torch + powder fire extinguisher - ebay

just trying to decide whether to put a door bin or a old down shelf on the left:

any opinions?? I'm thinking the door bin would be more practical for my uses...

Youre not the only one looking mate. Keep up the good work an keep the pics coming.;)

your after an ABS axle as well?? I'm telling you now there's non on ebay or any breakers in hampshire/sussex... I think the way forward will be to fit and use this non-abs axle for now and make sure I've rebuilt my old axle before MOT time.

Rob - great minds huh? I'm quite pleased with the finish on the door card!

I love the Mini handle. It's great to put bits on from previous cars/bikes/houses. I used the "disabled" white handle that was attached to the wall by the front door of the house we bought from a 90 year old.

Don't forget the bottle opener. :D

Martin Toole (Toolie/Toolie V8) is the best around for LR/Disco/RR parts. He's a ruthless, and I mean ruthless, p155 taker!!

Range Rover P38 HSE, Discovery Part's 300TDI items in Range Rover Recycled Parts store on eBay!

i've used him before... went to him to pick up a new light switch and i'd love to know where he gets the stock from! lol

the only abs axle's i've seen are all up in the 150k territory which puts me off massively as mines only on 125k - seems a bit stupid to put a higher milage axle on it!

I like what you've done with yours too... i was wondering where that handle came from!

I've still got the window winders and the other handle off the mini - if I didn't have electrics I'd think of making up some door cards with them!

Good work mate . Only had mine since November and already done a full service inc all diff oils , new water pump , new lift pump , rear disc's and pads inc calipers wheel bareings and seals . Inner and outer rear arches and heavy duty sills . So buy a discovery and spend a lot of time in your garage :)

cam300... its not just a car  they become a hobby!

UK_vette - thanks for the constructive input, well done.

Spend today driving around in the snow - only half an inch but hey, its the first time I've driven it in the snow!

There's something about driving off road and now i've discovered on the road, in the country with a wooly hat n gloves on, window open with snow everywhere that makes me proper chuffed

my missus thinks i act like an OAP driving slowly round the countryside listening to "crap" music

done a few other jobs to it the last few days, just uploading photo's for the following post :D

Axle swap is what I got upto I believe, king pin shims were on the way makin both front wheels wobble quite badly, stub axles were also f####d! Quickly realised a used axle was more cost effective - set about looking for a low milage ABS 24 spline axle with single brake hoses... was hoping to pick one up off an old V8 rrc or something but nothing!

Found one up norf with 110k on it - paid for it, had it palleted up and sent down to me, took my old axle off to find it was a non-abs axle!

I was f***ing screwing! Rang the geezer n he kept hanging up n ignoring my calls, put a dispute in on ebay/paypal n got a messege back saying "buyer didn't know what he wanted" "buyer needs to find out what he wants before he purchases something" blah blah blah - anyway, paypal dispute is ongoing!

Got my most valuable tools out:

Getting started:

20121219_154958.jpg

note the epic fail in the above photo.... not checking the new axle

Dropped the axle off, then took the springs off:

its hard work but do-able on your own with 2 axle stands, putting it back on however is a different ball game and a LOT easier with 2 people I found!

The old abs axle being tucked away in the corner:

20121220_152825.jpg

definitely forgot that the oil would pour out the hole for the breather pipe when I rolled it over  its all learning though!

Putting the radius arms/diff guard/springs etc on the new non-abs axle

20121220_152754.jpg

and that's all I've got for pictures I'm afraid, wasn't really in the mood to be out there after the whole c**k up with the time waster on eBay so photo's and goodwill went out the window!

Got it back on the road anyway after a day and a half, a few days later I got up for work, got in the car, started it up, looked in the rear view mirror as I pulled away and noticed this...

f#####g bar stewards!

So an hour trip to cross axle services (with no back window, running on chip fat and towing a trailer) I came away with a spare bonnet, TD5 Wipers, a window runner and a rear window.

Fitted the window runner along with a new window regulator on the front drivers side... finally I don't have to hang out my door to speak to people

Spare bonnet is to practise some roller method painting and the TD5 wipers were just spotted n grabbed

So the cretin that put the window through ended up costing me £100... 20 for the window, 40 for a new seal and 40 to pay a man who has a lot more patience and the "nack" to fit it for me!

I also got rid of that horrifically bad gutter mount in replacement for a 7 inch mag mount - signal and range is hugely improved and it looks better than it hanging at a 45 degree angle off the back all the time!

had my first ever sub 5mph dink and smashed a headlight on a skip today at work  then finished work early cos we couldn't do no more with the weather as it was n went to play up the top of the trundle in goodwood :D

The view point/carpark at the top of chalk pit lane:

Looks feckin orrible with that bashed headlight! :(

and I really need to do something about the arches so I can fit them 35'' m/t's! looks a bit stoopid on those wheels n tyres now!

Well i'm up to date now tom i'm afraid... I got a few more bits to go on!

Next stage is some extended arches so that I can fit the M/T's on for when I go playing.

As well as some cranked radius/trailing arms to go on with my wide angled props which are still in the boot with my recovery gear

Then I'll be happy to start playing around with mods a bit more... putting a winch in the bumper etc...

got two big jobs I want to do in the summer and that's to blank off the sun roofs and alpine lights, then to paint the roof from the gutter up mat black along with the bonnet - thats why I have the spare to practice on!

The other is a body lift, looked into it and I'll probably stick with a 2" body lift. Any more seems to add considerable costs of which I can't remember off the top of my head

You'll all be pleased to hear I fixed my headlight last week and fitted some TD5 wiper arms as well as refitting the drivers side door card.

Things are looking a tad prettier now

I'll have to get some scenic piccies tomorrow maybe... Things are on a bit of a standstill at the moment as being self-employed at my age with my skills... this time of year is very hard but I have an interview for a nice little number on thursday so fingers crossed :D

First things to do are the cranked arms and some new bushes to sort the vibrations and funny noises out  and also so its worthwhile chucking the wide angled props on so I can get some wicked articulation!

Then i'll be on the war path to get arches and a body lift on so I can go mud plugging with some manly 35" muds

Love reading this dude. Quick question, you see where your mag mount is, where abouts have you fed the antenna wire, through the roof or side?

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Mr hornet... tell me about it still having a headache with paypal about that bloody seller!!

Hunter - the wire is fed along the inside of the roof lining then out the back door for now, i plan to drop the roof lining in the summer to plate over the alpine lights and sunroofs so i'll make a tidier more permanent solution then!
