Hi, new here but a number of years on another well known forum.
My 1957 S2 SWB truckcab is still fine on its new chassis (2 years) but The Beast (1972 S3 SWB petrol) I was pushed into taking in January is now coming to pieces. The chassis and bulkhead are totally shot as it had been laid up in woodland for 20 years. It spent time in South Africa and South America before being laid up so as well as the buckets of rust dropping off there is all sorts of organic matter falling out of nooks and crannies.
I am not up for another complete chassis/bulkhead change but I will keep the engine/gearbox/overdrive/axles/stainless exhaust but the rest will have to go in time. So far it is going well after two days work, the whole front end is off back to the tub and we are ready to lift off the hard top and the tub leaving just the rolling chassis with the power plant to be removed.
I know my S2 gearbox is getting very noisy so the proposal is to strip and rebuild the S3 one over the winter and then swop them over to rebuild the S2 one, I know that will mean some clutch system work but nothing major - I need to look into whether or not I need to change the bellhousing as well to do the gearbox swop.
