I have been running my Freelander TD4 on the special diesels of Esso and occasionally Shell with a marked increase in performance and fuel economy up from 29 to 32 ( it is an auto).
The other day I was running low and put in 10 litres of Texaco normal diesel, they don't seem to do an uprates one. I found no difference in performance from the uprated fuel in it and if anything it was running better and a lot quieter.
She was also stating better, less white smoke and seemed to warm up quicker. Today I filled her with Texaco and did around 50 miles. I am still amazed with the quietness of the engine and the performance.
Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me entering my dotage too quickly.

of Texaco normal diesel, they don't seem to do an uprates one

they do a premium one called 'supreme diesel' .. @ 10p up on their regular diesel
i've tried both .. runs fine on either .. no diff. in mpg ..

as i normally use an additive .. i'll just add it to any 'regular' intake ..
not with the 'supreme' ..

tbh .. i sometimes wonder IF there's any difference between the 2 ..
( apart from the price ) .. the 'supreme' foams up just like the regular stuff ..
smells the same ..
i mean .. if they were to pump 'regular' out of both pumps
could mr/mrs driver tell the difference .. without taking a sample to a lab. for analysis ..

yeah .. engine runs smooth on either .. power wise is fine .. mpg is fine ..

~~~~~~~~
i was using "jet" regular diesel ..
'till the lp.pump/filter failed ..
nowt to do with the fuel .. most probably ..
( filter was past it's change date by mucho mileage ..
( pump was at 70k miles or so .. and noisy ..
anyhow .. changed to texaco as it were convenient at the time
'n they were offering a discount .. 'n thought i'd see what there premium stuff was like ..
had before all that .. been using shell diesel ..
but their 'premium' fuel .. although smooth .. gave me less power and worse mpg ..
so decided to give shell a miss altogether ..
~~~~~~~~~~

tried the 'esso' premium diesel .. that were fine ..
but only available at one out-of-the-way sevice station ..
so gave up on that :)

~~~~~~~
anyhow .. so far so good with the texaco stuff ..
i'll stick to their regular stuff plus diesel-rhino additive 'n some 2-stroke for good measure .. 'n once in a while use their premium stuff on it's own ..
( as in half a tank full now and again )
Shell V-Power all the way re high performance fuels, both petrol and diesel...Always in my case bought from a trusted garage with a trusted management for obvious reasons.
Living in Spain all diesel is micro filtered at pump so fuel filters last much much longer than Uk so most of us use supermarket cooking diesel to no ill effect,I have though got the Spanish habit of adding a tube of 2stroke mineral oil to each fill up though
I've never noticed the difference to be honest
put in millers on a refil and got a synergy box fitted
on a run get around 40-41 mpg , at a steady 65-68 mph with the cruise control on , yeh I know lazy, lol
