I saw a photo once of a tdci rear door that had just as much rust as any other door ive seen.

I seriously believe that they are no better at all than just getting td5 style ones, with a steel galvanised finish.

I think that the reason people assume they are better is that theyre younger, so, by that alone, fewer of them will be rusty, but the photo that i saw (it was an ebay ad) made it clear to me that they were not some otherworldly material.

I almost purchased some (complete) tdci some time back, but the deal did not go through. When im reddy to buy again, i wont be buying tdci - ill just buy the galvanised td5 style.

are they draughty and leaky as Retroanacond suggested

Well mine don't leak and my seals are appalling at moment! , massive gap at bottoms (it's on the list!) can't say if it's any more or less draughty to be honest as have nothing else to compare to! I believe I have the early 110/series doors as if I'm correct in my thinking they are made of ally and have the slanted glass and both slide? Believe military are steel?

Thanks think based on some very positive feedback from most people on this site and the cost I'm gonna go for the series ii style doors.

I think you have missed a valuable point that perhaps I did not make clear in my original post and that was cost. I have just seen a used Tdci door drivers side only on ebay for £600 minimum bid. A new set of galvanised doors direct replacement is about £800. if I could afford them I would have just brought them, but at the moment I cant the series ii style doors looked pretty cool and are alot cheaper, but if they pan out to be useless in that they are draughty and leak then I'll just keep milking my boss for overtime till I can afford the direct replacements at £800-£900

That's fair enough, they are expensive. Was just suggesting that in my experience it's not worth it as you will in time end up doing what you say in your last sentence.

I've seen the same photos. I'm not saying they're immune to rust, it's just they're far better built overall. They started fitting them in the last few years of Td5 production and I looked at a 2006 110 earlier this year which had immaculate doors. Compared to 2004/5 vehicles which were all going very rusty. This is in Scotland where the salt situation is pretty terrible.

Theyre not the tdci ones. I cant be bothered to re-read the thread, but i think the chap was pricing up tdci ones.
if your talking about the craddocks advert again they were just defenders ones but the price was for one door not a pair if it were a pair for that price I would have hit the buy it now button by now

I still think a pair. £420 + Vat is £504. Not £597. Happy to be corrected but I think I'm right
ok this is copied direct from their advert
LAND ROVER DEFENDER GENUINE FRONT DOORS

COST PRICE £420 PLUS VAT EACH NOT THE PAIR EACH

BOTH PERFECT

FIT ALL PUSH BUTTON DOOR HANDLE VEHICLES

1986-2005

LAND ROVERS PRICE OVER £1000

if you are sure you think the price is for a pair then you buy them. If a pair arrives at your door I'll buy them off you plus £100 for your trouble. If only one door turns up then your stuck with it

Don't need em but happy to call them Monday. They are quoting land rover prices, £420+vat each x 2 = approx. £1000, as stated. Don't need to get into an argument, trust trying to help.

As for the VAT your right they have worked that out wrong £420 + Vat is £504 not £597 as you said it should be £497.50 + VAT

quite right I dont want to get into an argument either. I will also phone them on Monday morning if the price they quote is for two doors at £420 +vat then I shall be asking for postal cost to my front door. If it is just for one door then I'll be going back to my original idea of buying the series ii doors.
