Using of a cat on them was a early attempt to reduce emission partials for the EU emission laws. think the 300 tdi had cats also for same reason

Saying to a mate in the pub last night, my thought was.. if you take the cat off the your mileage increases, therefore using less fuel so less exhaust gas. Leave it on lower mileage more fuel but less gas
