my fuel pump has stopped working ithink, it does not make any noise anymore is there any test i can do before i replace it (£200.00)

i take it your disco does not start then?

i suppose you could just let some deisel out of the fuel filter then cycle the ignition and pump throttle pedal a few times, then listen for pump trying to prime system,

check feeds and grounds to the pump.

if fuel pump fuse and relay are ok then , check you are getting 12v to the pump then check earth pin goes to ground, if all ok looks like your pump knackered

try removing it 1st to see if its fell apart or blocked

the fuel pump was knackerd got anew one £200 ,still will not start , so the guy at the landrover shop told me to replace the presure regulator ,so i did that $70 .and still wont start ,it will not bleed itself even after 1 hour trying, any body got any more ideas .

how do you know pump was knackered if it still dont start?

can you here the pump doing any thing at all?

did you check the wiring?

i took the pipe off the regulator the pump still not pumping no noise so i checked for live at the pump that was ok .put a new pump on ,now it pumping round the system ok but still willnot bleed it seems like it is still getting air in the system.

ive had that before where ive drained the filter on service but pump would not prime system i just had to keep cranking, left ignition on for 5 mins crank then leave again, kept doin that untill it started.

i tried cranking and waiting still no joy .now i have been told that the cylinder heads crack and suck air in from there,it does lose a bit of water but no leaks no oil in water and no water in oil has any body known of head cracks?

the td5 will still not go .so i have had it on the testbook laptop, all the electrics are ok ,i replaced the fuel presure regulator ,still the same.the man from landrover said that he has not come across this problem before and came to check everything i had done , he said the only thing left is sucking air in the head ????????????

today i finaly got the td5 going, the man from the land rover was right the bloody head was either cracked or sucking air air from a broken injector,a land rovver pal has borrowed me a complete head ,so i put it on today and primed all the fuel system approx 10 mins , turned the key and away it went, now i am in debt big time <anybody want to buy a complete head ? >

i have had everybody and there dog looking at the td5 ,everybody says the same its sucking air in the head ,maybe a crack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had this problem,If you undo the air bleed connection on the diesel filter there is a small valve remove it, then reconect and try starting it

i doubt its the head, when these crack they normally put fuel into the oil but its rare and they will still run anyway, are all the pipes on the right way? the order from left to right when looking in the boot is white, green ,blue, black, can you hear the pump squealing when you turn the ignition on? if not then you need to check feeds and earths. if the pump is running but not getting fuel to the fuel block on the head, have a look at the filter head as follows:- looking at the filter side on through the wheel arch, remove the pipe on the left nearest you (white cover). undo the brass union (19mm) and take it out, remove the white air bleed thingy and have a look at the seal and see if its damaged, make sure the white air bleed thingy doesnt fall to bits, if it does, replace the union (it comes as a kit). i have seen it where all this is ok but its still the filter head thats nackered and fuel just circulates round the filter and and back to the tank, normally though, the pump will squeel its nuts off

hey clutch think this fault has been long sorted looking at the dates of the posts:D:D

thanks for info but it was the head a hairline crack near to the fuel regulator i did everything everybody said then got a secondhand head . now it runs fine ,had the head teasted and they found the crack so if any body wants to buy a cam, valves injectors rocker get in touch.

An old post I know but was it ever resolved?

I have just had a bad starting issue, replaced pump, now replaced fuel regulator, collecting from garage soon, hope to god it's fixed now.

yes i fixed it with a new pump new regulator and a second hand head which was cracked in the fuel gallery and sucking in air so it would not bleed the fuel system i wiss you luck with yours .let me know what it was.

Well, praying and fingers crossed, collected it last night and seems to repeatedly start last night when warm and this morning from cold. A definate result on before.

Replaced Fuel Pump and also it turned out to be the "air" regulator. Whether this is different to the fuel regulator or just a different translation from German (I live in Switzerland) I dont know.

It looks like it fits somewhere along the air intake line and has a small sensor sticking up in the middle of it, looks like a tiny thermocouple (temperature sensor to the un-initiated).

I guess that sends a reading to something else to regulate the fuel air mix.

Hope this helps.
