That’s impressive for cans!!! You know if you go over with a cutting compound on that it would come up lovely!
Got a lot of time for this thread and your work. You and banks are very tidy workers!

Thanks buddy i guess we have the same addictions, dont tell him ;) but he is way ahead of me on the welding front, what he has achieved in 12 months is amazing! Not jealous o course ( not much) planning to play with new welder soon so listen out for the fire engines!

Hahaha cheers dude! Youre not far from me so post lockdown, if time allows im happy to come and play with welders! :p

Im just easily bored :oops:haha

When you go for your doors i found using G3 compound + a polish pad on a low speed drill or adjustable grinder came out very well. Layer of turtle wax over the top. Got some mega shine.

Will be taking you up on that old bean! love a bit of metal melting!

I have a polisher and some pads / gmop fluids, got given a crate full of stuff by a mate, so need to have a goosey at whats in there etc
The door is finished now, i am happy but not pleased with it. too much dust / pollen and other crap in it. My garage has a pitched roof and its full of Squirrels / birds etc, should have put up some polythene really, but then again its a tractor/ fender. Plus you get a bit job blind with your nose up against it, its looks fine from a few feet away. I guess when i was doing the triumphs / show cars it was different, a defender has spot welds on view when it comes out of the factory, so im not that fussed, but will of course do a better job on the NS door lol.

PS did i mention i hate bodywork ? its too close to arts and crafts for me :D:D:D

i will probably make a mess of the polishing i expect, fluid everywhere and circular marks in me paint work, think ill stick to the running gear and lectrics n me leds!
@resto_d1 @bankz5152 Cutting compound over the clear coat yes? think i might just have G3 in a bottle, there is a section of Gmop fluids and pads so will have a look

Will have both old doors for sale soon, they will need the usual bottom steel frame weld repair etc.
Skins and rest of frame n doors are tip top, no dents

Looks like the stuff I put under my bonnet, makes a difference

yep its good stuff, building a music studio at home and use this stuff between the doors (we screw two fire doors together) for each studio wall skin so x 4 doors in total.

Bitumen backed can be a bit of a worry on vehicles firewalls / bonnets etc, heat make is go a bit floppy droppy lol, as I found out driving a 2.0L spitfire back from cornwall once on fire, looked like a scene from the wacky races!

I have noticed a couple of times when I open the bonnet I get it on my hands if I touch the edges, its aggravated by mine being black, the sun gets the bonnet very hot.

Sticky as hell!, maybe you could seal edges with laquer, or some foil tape, might do the trick etc?

High Tack Black Rayon Cloth Tape AT123 is a very strong close woven black rayon uncoated cloth, coated with a transparent, aggressive, pressure sensitive, solvent free rubber – resin adhesive ,

Try this?> like gaffa but with matt cloth finish, about 10 times stronger glue and not affected by temp.
