Just in case anyone is interested: (most stainless steel fixings for defenders or exhausts are A2 and only if your lucky! If its A4 it will have A4 stamped on it somewhere.........

The two most commonly produced grades of stainless steel are 304 (known as 'A2') and 316 (known as A4). Both of these grades will offer excellent corrosion resistance, cleanability, and the ability to handle extremely low (cryogenic) and high temperatures.

Grade 316 is also known as marine grade stainless steel due to its increased resistance to chloride corrosion compared to type 304.

The basic chemical compositions of these two grades are as below:

Grade 304 stainless steel (A2): chromium 18% + nickel 8% (known as '18/8')
Grade 316 stainless steel (A4): chromium 18% + nickel 8% + molybdenum 3% (known as '18/8/3')
Stainless steel can also be classified by their crystalline structure, which is determined by their chemical composition. The two grades mentioned above are Austenitic stainless steels. Other types include Ferritic, Martensitic, and Duplex.

Changed Panhard rod to poly.

1 disco arm & extended ball joint to suit.
Some change the steering tube as they think it’s too short.
Unsure if a disco steering tube is longer?

I would say @KISSMYAURA turn the panard bolt the other way to protect the threads off roading ;)

yep seen this, but as i understand getting the drop arm off is a royal PIA?
Already have the HD arms, and would much happier with what you suggest, just think i may have to remove steering box to get the arm off!
 
Undo the big nut till it’s nearly off & wiggle the steering with engine running. (Depends on if it’s tight on taper it may come off)
Or puller on the arm
Think you can leave the box on.

Theres a full kit available from Gywn Lewis bout £150 i believe. Includes a new HD sumo bar.

Also results in tighter more "refined" steering. Much less wallowy.

As for getting the arm off ive always gone down the route of CAREFULLY cutting a 1mm slot in the side to release the pressure then smacking it off.
 
can get the arm cheap enough, just need the brackety fing for the damper! cheers chaps.
PS me n grinders n carefull tend not to go hand in hand !
 
Finally go around to jigging on the horror show that was previous keepers attempts to bolt a snorkel to screen frame, 8 holes I kid you not, and one rivntut!

LIDL doing 400ml spray 2 for £4.00 primer, matt black and re rust stuff, the primer is superb, just dropped £24 on 12 cans...( my lot have a lot of body work to do this year! the primer is high build and is a yellow/green colour. Superb stuff used it before on 2 pac ;)

Only a temp fix fitting new screen surround soon, hence isoposn p38 and halfords LR epsom green, will lacquer tomorrow. and Yes I know I mask like i am in a war zone......

As suspected Trailing arms bushes are well and truly spanked....
Have to say, been a fan of Plusgas for 20 years, it has eaten through many triumphs and a few Lancia's ( dont ask ), used some XCP ONE, manual squirt bottle on these bolts.
Gave then a wire brushing last night and a good squirting. Then again this morning early and set to around 11am. I had my slitting disc on the grinder and was fully prepared for cutting them off, thought I would give them a turn just for fun, i have a 1m breaker then both turned with the smallest of grunts. The grinder went back in the drawer for another day.
Bolts were in a bit of a state and as i suspected the last few turns were the hardest due to the thread pretty much being re cut buy the bolt on the vinegar strokes, However very impressed with XCP one.

I use ceramic anti fret paste and spray when re fitting, thats the white stuff you can see on the new ones.
