Hi all I wondered if anyone could help me, Ihave just got myself a 2nd hand super winch 9.0 and I have connected it all up, and it's not working, it worked before I brought it, but now it has stopped, it doesn't seem to make any noise when pressing the switch forward anD backwards, the cable comes out when I turn the leaver to freel spool, but it doesn't wana move, could it be the solonoid any ideas would be great thanks

I had one on my old fourtrak and it was a bad earth on mine,

Is your control for the winch a remote control or cabled ?

Have finally got the winch to make a clicking noise when pressing the button but the wires smoke a lot, and the solonoid clicks but the drum doesn't move

Heh, don't run it any more!

As said a tap wiv' a' 'ammer sometimes works, but it might also be clogged with mud (very likely) and need a stripdown/rebuild.

Hot/smoking cables = more load/current than the cables can handle. or too much resistance at some point between the battery and the motor.

So either motor is seized? or it's sticking and resisting the flow of leccy. Or it isn't earthed sufficiently. Current flowing to earth will be same as current been drawn from battery. if it can't flow then it will overheat as the resistance builds up.

I know you've earthed to battery but is the battery earth strap at least as large as the winch earth cable?? no point putting 20mm earth on the winch if the battery earth strap is only 6mm braided. :)
