Hi, I have had my sunroof out, not too bad at all - and now all rebonded and hammerited

But the little lug on the plastic mechanism on one side that attached the mech to the little swing arm causes lift is broken off (terrible explanation but doesnt matter)
I will try to get a new piece / kit and repair it
But until then ....

If I only open it a bit (with screwdriver turning in the slot behind light fitting) it will open to the point when it is tilted up fine

So I am thinking of reconnecting motor and carefully using this to only open it a bit, then shut it, as needed. At least I'll get a bit of air
Its hot here in Portugal in the summer, and the rear windows and aircon are still on the ToDo list ...

But I am not sure how the motor works. If I lift my finger off the button does the motor stop?
Or is it an 'all or nothing', fully open or shut job like the tailgate window?

Could someone with an operating sunroof (if there actually IS anyone :) ) let me know, please?

Yes, only motors while button pressed.

But, make sure you press it close to close otherwise it will open further and jam.

Rebuilt the slides on mine and now all good. Keep it lubed with silicon grease, works great.

@andyfreelandy Thanks.
Did you rebuild the sliders?
With second hand cannibalised bits or summaat loike this?

Mine are all lubricated, its just the bit shown in this photo thats broken

Yes a kit like that, mine was around £70 but a while back.
Take your time, do one side at a time so that you can check the other side if it all falls to bits !!!!
Worth doing in my view.

Thanks
The thing is I am not sure the unbroken one hasnt skipped a few cogs
at which point should I introduce the top strip?
Put both red arrow strips with teeth with first tooth on the cog wheel and then push both in, or delay the top one a bit?
This is a fun job ....
Last night I actually had the sense to stop and restart today before I beat on the garage floor with the greasy MFing pieces and then set fire to my FL in a big strop :)

FFS! Siamese octopus twins couldnt simultaneously insert all those greased up fiddly bits into their respective fiddly positions :)

Roof goes up
Roof goes down
YES!!!
Thanks, and for future reference:
two old ones I got hold of and the other side on mine all confirm the relative positions of the two toothed bars either side of the cog - as does the fact that it works!
Photos of the rear ends of the bit that raises
EDIT: The hidden plastic strip is just peaking through that 'window' in the metal housing in each case as the other strip is just at the end of the 45 degree bit of the flange that it slides along. Picture is clearer than my ramblings :)

I then:
1. mounted both assembled mechanisms to the car (a Farg of a job with almost all screws difficult to put in - get a T20 into because of the other bits above)
(the motor was already dropped out of connection with the cables)
2. pulled both mechanisms to their fully open posn
3. Remounted the motor
4. closed both with the motor
5. Remounted the sunroof to the mechanisms

I only have one 'weeeeeeeeee bolt/piece' (my mechanic dad called them that as it is the noise you make as you throw them over your shoulder at the end of the job)
It was on top of the headlining on the LHS of the motor - I am guessing its a spacer for one of the 3 motor bolts?
Seems to work without it tho
It used to have4 lugs, one is broken off
Anybody know where it should go?
Please

OK. Next question :)
Should I drive on the motorway with it fully open or will the aerodynamic forces do it no good / rip it off?

It may not rip your sunroof off, but it'll have a good go at the head lining ;)

My sunroof works. I know cos I never use it in case it breaks :D However, I occasionally hit the wrong button when I open the window and it opens

No need to open it anyway as I have AC - however, I'm to tight to pay the extra diesel to turn that on! It only goes on when we're in tour mode for visiting friends and family.
