I have a chance of a used drive shaft here.
Is it just a case of unbolting the old one and replacing it with the new one or more to it than that?
The guys here at the scrap yard say it's very easy to do.
I have my tools here...
Thanks.
Jon

I just wanted to add something... For about a week I have had this message on the dash: Select Neutral & Slow Down

Related?

Solved!!!

2 issues here...
No Drive: Removed fuse from holder 37 then had drive again!
Clunking sound: Got truck on ramp... Rear U/J knackered.

Thanks everyone
So what we were praying for is actually the case?
Hope that really is it.
all the very best mate!
:):):):):):)
Stan!

Wow... These rear props are hard to get hold of.
€1400 for a new one but not until next week.
I just drove 4 hours to pick up a second hand one.
Any advice on what I should look for when I get it?
Thanks...

No play in any U/J but free movement in all directions. If you possibly can beg/borrow/steal a grease gun and grease up via any nipples you can see.
Hope things have changed, last time I went to a scrapper in Frogland their rule on pricing was......1/2 the cost of new.:eek::eek:
So hope it ain't like that.
Why can't you just get the U/J replaced? It ain't rocket science to a mechanic, I've done quite a few, all you need is a hammer, circlip pliers, a vice and a range of sockets.
Oh and some grease!
Much cheaper, I'd a thought.
Too late to tell you this now i suppose.:(

Might be one of them style props where the u/j cups are sort of peened in rather than held in with circlips?

Might well be, I have no idea, if so then there isn't an easy way to do them.
The price of progress I suppose.
Does this mean no nipples either?:(:(:(

Almost certainly no nipples.
I used to think no nips was a crap idea, but we have many many trucks at work with over a million k on the clock on their original props, no nipples sealed for life etc.
I reckon maybe a u/j or two per year on the whole fleet, thats 180 trucks doing approx 100k each per year.

They are slightly larger:D
I think most car stuff they aim for service life of 100k, trucks 100000k.
30 yrs ago truck fell apart at 500k engine/gearboxes you name it needed rebuilding, nowadays you do not rebuild any major units just servicing/repairs.

Just goes to show they could, if they wanted to, build cars to last nearly for ever.
Which would be green as feck, but the companies would go bust.
Must get boring for you not having the fun jobs to do.:(:(:(
