whatever
strange fault developing, while putting my foot down on the m way hitting about 75 mph lost all revs, done this twice on Monday, found the throttle cable plastic grommet on the diesel pump had come loose, sorted that no issues until today power loss 3 times ,thoroughly checked the throttle cable for snagging seems fine, its about a year old, grommet has not come loose since, tapped the accelerator a few times it come back to normal at a loss now fuel pump solenoid?

When you say lost all revs do you mean engine stopped or did it just drop to idle? if stopped then could be solenoid but if it is idling then probably not and may be a cable issue

dropped to idle did not stop, yea thinking cable related as well

Might be worth getting someone to press and hold throttle fully down (engine off) and then try to see if you can move the throttle lever on the pump back to the idle position. That will check if you have a good cable connection from pedal to pump. If that is ok then you probably have a pump issue

good idea,hopefully not the pump

Mine did this. Found the fuel gauge was a little out, filled up the tank and with the extra header pressure normal service was resumed. Did it do this on a full tank? Worked for me.

The big elbow pipe on the turbo hasn't come off has it i had this on one of my 300tdi disco's once, took me a short while to find it as the car ran fine once i came off the M way, hope this helps :)

My mates 300 drove fine and lost power full under boost, it got worse and worse over a few days and I swapped the lift pump, that fixed it,

Take the outlet pipe off the lift pump and give it a pump and see if it works

will do,will be annoying if it is the lift pump its not been on there long, only fitted it because my local bearmach owed me a credit ,thought i would change it because there weak

well had a good look today, throttle cables not sticking and working as it should, all turbo pipes attached and go hard when its revved, will try sticking a delphi pump on see what that does ,even though my pumps new and a bearmach brand not ruled it out as faulty, delphi pumps not dear anyway

Just pull the out let pipe off the lift pump and pump the leaver, if it squirts everywhere it's working

Dunno about Defender fuel tank connectors, but on my 300 Disco the tank nylon mouldings where the connectors meet the fuel pipe were split and produced very similar symptoms .. absolutely fine at low revs or stood, but hesitating and losing revs at full throttle or higher speeds. I assume it's letting air in, or fuel out, or both!!

had a old sherpa diesel a few years back that would die, would not start and chuck out smoke when i finally found the leak it was tiny, sucking in air,so fair point Paul,if the lift pump is working thats my next check

Did you sort the issue?
A quick check on the lift pump is just to crack the bleed screw on the fuel filter head during tick over
If fuel is delayed or air comes first suspect poor lift pump but if fuel flow is good then maybe air from lines or tank
Maybe even the fuel filter is clogged
Sounds like fuel delivery is lagging seen as it's high speed related
I had this weird prob once on a guys 90 but it was the cardboard cap insert off a bottle cap in the fuel tank, it would get sucked over the pick up pipe in the tank and then float off as the engine died off and all seemed normal for a while, it drove the guy insane but I popped the sender out and shone a torch in and found it straight away

Had exactly the same problem with mine
