I'm having problems with my stereo system (not the LR O/E unit). It won't play anywhere near full volume and is crackling, along with the unit getting hot.
I thought perhaps that it might be a bad earth so I ran a separate earth to from the unit to earth with no change.
I have tried two unit's, one was unused, any idea's?

Is it wired to play through the OE amplifier (if fitted to yours) & someone forgot to add the wire from the aftermarket unit to switch the amplifier on ?

Is odd that the original head unit (not OE) worked fine for a couple of year's until it started doing the same thing as the current replacement. Why is it getting hot and crackling with low volume? Also do you think that there is a problem with the amp then, if so where is that situated?

Hi, the amp is under the front passenger seat (& some had a 6 disc cd changer under the drivers seat).

If you've had to turn up the head unit a lot to make it loud enough to hear, the head unit internal amplifiers could be working very hard - which might explain why it's getting hot.
What % of max volume are you having to use ?
As said, if fitted, the LR amplifier is located under the front passenger seat. It's approx the same size as a typical head unit, so you can't miss it !

It's rubbish, you can hardly hear it at full volume and it sound's scratchy, like all the speakers have blown. There doesn't seen to be anything under either seat, see photo's.
