When I bought my 2000td4 it had a jvc head unit fitted which I've never liked....... It lights up bright red for a start which in a car with green illumination really upsets my ocd!!!

The car also has a factory fit multichanger under the passenger seat.

I've been looking for a wile and finally got an original head unit from a 2000 model with the intention of fitting it and being able to use the multichanger.

Just been out to fit it and have hit a problem.........

Connected up the unit and all works including the steering wheel controls but i can't connect up the changer. The back of the head unit has 3 similarsized connectors and a long thin one. I connected a grey and a brown connector and a black one into the long thin one. I am assuming the 3rd connector is for the changer but the only connector I can find back there is a small square blue one which isn't compatible with the remaining rectangular one in the back of the unit.

Have I just been unlucky and they changed the stereo connectors in year 2000 or am I missing an adaptor or something??

Cheers

CHRIS

Hello Chris,
Looking at the back of the head unit from my y2000 td4, I've the round pin BMW type connector block+male & female 10 pin block connectors for steering wheel controls & CD multichanger. So it looks like there are a few different head units out there, but I'd have thought the multichanger connector was standard to them all. Is yours a black dash car?

I had a multichanger on my 1999 FL and I've got one in my current 2001 FL.
Both different manufacturers, and having searched for iPhone control adapter thingies for mine I understand the connectors are different also.

No.... Not black dash

Looks like the back of the head unit is expecting a cd changer connector of a similar size to the standard grey and brown one!! Luckily the head unit only cost me 6 quid!!

This is from my 1998 with CD multichanger
There is a connector to the dash clock display too - sorry but I forgot which is which :)

Hello brack......... Yes that is the same as the back of the one I've got.

The bottom two accept the grey and the brown..... The thin vertical one takes a black plug which may be for display so am assuming top one is to changer....... If it is then it won't fit the plug on the end of my changer which is a small blue Square

Bugger....... Back in with the horrible jvc!!!

I will re fit mine tomorrow to see ....if nobody else pops up with the answer in the meantime.
I'm at work till 2.30pm so will post after then :)

Looks like you are missing this red adapter Chris - multichanger plug is the small blue then the other end of the red adapter fits into the bottom socket on the radio :)

mine is a R770 radio cassette and a Phillips RC026 multichanger by the way.

Thanks Brack

Yes you have same radio and changer as me so yes that must be the lead I'm missing

Does it have a part number on it?? Will have to try to get one

Chris

I had a look for a part number but fraid there wasn't one :( (on mine anyway).

There's a couple of breakers with RC026 multichangers on e bay for sale ...if you message them they might be able to help you out with the adapter;)

Hello again brack

No luck finding that lead !

If you have time would you mind having a look and telling me which wires in the blue plug end up going to which pins on the back of the stereo ?

A simple sketch would be great........... I'm going to have to make up my own harness

Cheers

Chris

No probs

Notice that two wires attach to one of the middle connectors of the blue block :)

Wouldn't you be better off getting a decent head unit with correctly coloured back lights?
The factory unit is pants which is why I dumped it!!
I might still have the lead adapter as I don't remember removing it TBH. I'll have a look.

Thanks Nodge be great if you have...... Only listen to stuff on way to work and just have a thing about liking oe stuff

Brack

Thanks for the pics

My blue plug just has a single insulated black to each of the middle terminals

So what I have on the back of the radio now is as follows

Pin 1 black
Pin2 red
Pin3 brown
Pin4 blue
Pin5 yellow
Pin6 white
Pin7 black
Pin 8 orange
Pin9 black

Not sure if 3 blacks is right ?

Do these colours look same as yours ?

Thanks again

Chris

Got it working !

Thanks for the help Brack although my homemade pins into the blue plug are not brilliant and they may fall out so if you can find that adaptor Nodge that would be great .

To be honest the sound quality isn't too bad !, but it has highlighted that I have a few missing pixels on my clock

No bother ...nice to know it works eh :)

When I powered up mine the other day I found two long lost cd's in the changer so I'm happy too ;)

There is a fix on LZ for the lcd clock pixel loss, have a search and thee shall find :)

Thanks again Brack

Yes done the pixel fix thingy on my last 3 freelanders with varying degrees of success

Will give it a go anyway
