Here's one a made earlier @dieseldog69. Matched it to the bit in scrap pile. Thinking I'll weld box onto the side of it once in place and span to the other side. Seems mad not to use up free box section when I'm tight on cash.

Sweet, that's exactly what I was talking about :)

I got rained off at work and when I got home it was clear, dry and no wind at all, went in, made tea, stepped out the front door and the heavens just opened and bucketed it down, so much for me getting an hour on it tonight :(

With a bit of luck the weather will have changed by the weekend?
 
I keep getting caught in it too! Had a little look at the cross member and it looks like it's been patched a fair bit. I'll buy a genuine one I think to replace it and sheet for the boot floor I guess. I'm not sure if one big sheet is possible or I'll have to put joins in it? If so I guess I can put my joins over the box runs

little bit of measuring but the sheet steel I linked for £60 is 2.5mX1.25m so that is a fair chunk, and even if you needed a little extra it's silly cheap compared with the panels. Also you can still use any off cuts from any extras you bought to patch up the front end, think you'll need it when you get there ;)

Yeah I was thinking that sheet size and work from back to the front. Front end doesn't look awful. I've see worse but who knows what's under wings. I won't want to drive my other car once this is done haha. Hopefully I can do front end without engine pull!!! The only time I plan pulling engine is if I have a freshly rebuilt one to go in as replacement :D

Engine can stay in situ when it comes to the front end, it's one of the nicest things about it.

If I have to pull mine out for any reason then I think I will replace it with something a little more interesting with an auto box hanging off the back of it ;)

Lol I am staying simple and utilitarian!! I just want no nonsense work/hobby horse that looks after me when I look after it a bit. Hoping I can even use it to take some work miles up. My soul aim once built is reliability. I figure if the engines fully serviced with new bits, gaskets and fluids I can have a vehicle that will be a bit dependable and if it's breaking gives me prior warning rather than roadside emergencies?!
 
Just incase anyone wants to do the same from box section I have attached drawing at 1:1 to do so. You can cut and stick these onto your metal to get the right pieces.

I got two 6 foot powder coated 4mm fence posts to make the main straps from that sit on the risers. All came together quite nicely. I made seats for the other side out of box but I overcomplicated them, they look like sh1t and I don't want to stick them to my chassis. I'm going to butt weld some 3mm to my angle then reincforce to make the two remaining seats. Not any pics during but I scuffed powder coating and any rust scabs and coated in red.

Tough but fairly successful day. No idea how left rear is levitating but I've stuck a jack under there in case it stops. Had to cut mount off as rusty behind it and will need to make a new one. I'm hoping measurements off the back of the chassis will be enough to line it up :eek:

Cross member seems to be sllllllightly off. I think I'll need to widen the locating hole slightly.

Like the frame work, the rear cross member looks shot o hell :eek: Far worse than mine is/was.

Completely dead I couldn't even save back plates. My worry now is getting the mount in correctly. I'm hoping to remake it to be same dims and measure distance from end of chassis to its top corner. Once I tack in place I can then compare....
