Exhaust is on, tank is in, loom half way tidied and it's looking mint :)

So excited yo get onto the engine. Never has the sound of a clattering diesel brought some much joy. I hated diesels in cars - my v6 in the Audi changed that but I hated the clatter. The old disco suits it. **** me the valve clearances are out though :D

Haha I will I will. I just re fitted fuel lines and wanted to know she was right plus i cant weld in gale force lol. Another problem now though it I didn't push pistons all the way in when on bench and they won't go in for toffee now (calipers). I'm a tad worried they're too big as don't remember comparing :rolleyes:
I'll sort that another time when I can be arsed with them.
 
You may be able to get some calipers onto the pistons to check the 2 sizes.
Are you sure your pushing the pistons in square?

Your doing good work.
 
Trying to push them square. They're the right diameter I'm just wondering if there's two heights I.e. fronts are longer or a different caliper is available?

Just wait until you actually take it for the MOT and the drive home afterwards :)

Front pistons are longer than the rear by about 10mm.
I hope they aren't ****ing Fronts!!! I have to put some edging on rear quarter, and do the arches, boot floor and rear cross member. Then I'll hunt for mot failures and hopefully ticket it and carry on with the rest with a ticket on it. Thoughts?

Sounds like a plan.

I was chatting with one of our fitters who has recently done a boot floor and he was saying that he bought a sheet of 1.5mm steel, two wheel tubs and the floor supports and a length of 20x2mm box section and made it all out of that for 1/3 the cost of repair panels he recons.
 
I'm not sure I have the skill for that. This is my panel cost without my sheet. If I could shave the cost considerably and you think it's possible for me to fabricate I Will. I saw it on this forum when I first joined but can't remember where. They'd done a lovely job too

Use the box section to recreate the longitudinal strength where the floor would be joined to the side section and weld it from the rear body cross member to the diagonal floor bulkhead where the front of the floor mounts and weld the floor braces to them too.

Easier to sketch it out and play with it but it it will be miles cheaper than the floor and side sections, just the wheel tubs to buy if you need to but you might be able to save yours if they're not too far gone?

I plan to save them. So may be buy a rear cross member but make the floor??
 
I can get that box for free albeit 3mm thick. Could I not make boot floor horizontals from that too? Make a frame up and weld to the chassis boot floor feet? That's if it just so happened to work out height wise

How bad is the rear cross member? I just repaired the corner of mine as that seems to be the only bit that needed it, I've seen some real horror shows but think that most of them could be repaired with a little time and some metal craft but it's ever so easy to just buy a whole new one and then weld it in as one piece.
