Missing Link

Due to changed circumstances (sic) we no longer need two cars. However the freeby is a manual and the missus needs an auto.

Went to the local dealers more than anything cos thehave the range for her to have a test drive. They wanted to price up the two cars to start off the process. The missus's car is 30 months old and we've had since new, good nick and very low milage little run around.

Nothing quite as good on the market to compare with but my best guess was its worth about £7.5-£8k. but I know you dont get as much on trade in.

However Lookers offer against a £20k Freeby 2

£4k :eek:... I was so stunned I told him to **** offf, guess the missus won't be doing a test drive there then:mad:

Our local dealership for Land Rover is Stratstone...frankly I'd rather shoot myself in the foot then walk in there, they couldn't care less about anything other than you buying a new car...The price they quoted for my disco was laughable, traded it in at another smaller gargage and got £3k more plus healthy discount on the new one.

Bought a Defender from Nene a few weeks ago and found them to be really good, couldn't fault them to be honest.

Not the easiest thing in the world to do though, selling private. We ended up being offered £400 less than our wanted price as a part ex which was acceptable in the end.

The car was up for almost 2 months and nothing more than a few enquiries.

i bet the offer was accompanied by a white cheesey grin, makes you want to knock their block off.

I know! Sounds like you overvalued the car if it doesn't sell, though. That's why people do part ex though, its convenient. Not least, you don't leave yourself without a car for a couple of weeks; or having to fund 2 cars temporarily.

Funnily enough the car was valued at about £400 below what anybody else was advertising. Even had 1 guy say that he had looked at a few, not as good condition, but were about £300-£600 more expensive.

I was wondering if they all thought there was something hidden.

Private sale would have been better as her indoors was getting the bus to work so no dramas on the no car front.

Pain in the ass the fees autotrader and fleabay wanted too.

As I am around to drive her I'm gong to prep and private sell hers then try and part ex the Freelander, its worth less so they can't screw me as much.

Need to get the missus into a couple of motors and make sure she's happy 1st.

What's the thoughts on above average milage Landrovers. Standard repmobiles are normally not such an issue over mileage if they have been properly serviced. Seen a Disco less than 3 years old that is £2k under book price cos its done 90k but is got fsh and looks ok.

LOL .. I'm the other way.

Just got a Feelander2 test Drive booked at Stratstones ... 6 hours!

I wonder of a Feelander can get down Stanage ... ;)

We're also getting a 4 hour drive in a D4 .. on our own again. Told them if I can't take it away and _really_ try it then there's no point in having a test drive at all ... ;)

No intention whatsoever to buy one, couldn't afford one even if I wanted one, but it's nice to get something out of them to pay back for when they've ****ed me off in the past. Their fault for spamming me with leaflets offering test drives ...

Ask if you can borrow a car "for a trial". Then enter a trial with it.
