I Don't normally worry aboot it being cold, I dunno why it's bothering me so much.
Christ, I've built all my projects in the winter, and it's been colder than this for each of them!

The Wife says I guess i'm feeling my age.......at 32 .....

Hoping my parts are going to turn up today so i can either paint or get the engine repaired - or i'll just go out and start on the dashboard.:D

32 you old git....... i feel like a 23 year old (but cant find one that will have me) 48 really and going through the change.....

Repaired the Dash today, I'll post some piccies later on, as soon as i can find the Camera again.... I THINK it's in the garage.......somewhere...

garage a mess is it we have a saying fer that up our way when a garage /workshop gets like that
its called the man cave:D:D:D

a garage... whats one of them.... what i would give to turn my front room into a garage, tv, heat, not too far to kettle.... mmmmmmm suggestions on convincing the other half to let this happen....

Whenever my mate comes over he shakes his head and tuts at me. His is all organized and he knows where stuff is..... I just "Do a Dougal" as my friends put it (from father Ted) and drop whatever is in my hand and pick up what I need next..... i found the camera - it was actually indoors on the fireplace where it should be....:rolleyes:

Been busy tonight, and finally got the dash repaired ad partially re-assembled.
The Lower dash itself is in fairly good condition, apart from the rot i chopped out earlier in the Resto... Here it is on the kitchen table.

It's pretty damn kewl how open to all this my Wife actually is....however, jumping out the shower, and waving my cock around going "woooo-hooooo" doesn't tender the same feeling... wierd.

Gents, if you're pulling bulkheads, or working on the floorpans, then the blower and matrix will have to come out anyway - i'd say check the dash in the same area as mine haven't rotted out - it's a ****e seal between the matrix and bulkhead - water gets blown in and just sits in the dash airbox area.....and spreads.....

Now, the plan was to weld in some fresh steel and re-mount the foam and vinyl, but that plan was soon scuppered when i stared to pop the clips and found the foam was fooked and the vinyl was a little more brittle than i'd thought.

So on to plan "B" Rivet in the pair of profiled patches i'd made in thin steel and try to live with it until i can find a better condition lower panel....which is going to be niggling at me for ages...........ah well...

P1010003-1.jpg

Redundant Roadwork Signs are an endless source of cheap, coated steel sheet and short angle, BTW.....pick mine up when I need them from council facilities sites I visit during my working day, they normally have one or two lying around, going for scrap...

Ii'm SO embarrassed.....as I say, this is going to drive me MAD knowing it's there...even if it is a good, solid fix.
P1010005-1.jpg

But at least the inside is starting to more like a landy again :D :D
P1010006-1.jpg

Also got round to remounting my refurbed Matricbox and blower...

Just dump them where you need to and Blame it on Ninjas.

"What are these bits doing in here, darling ?"
"Ninjas"
**walk away calmly, don't look back, or meet her glare**
"Oh.....uuhhhh....fine...."

Easy.

B20 - I get my paint from Re-Paint.co.uk - A division of RustSolutions.co.uk pretty good stuff, and goes on quite nicely with a roller and a brush :D

All my parts come from Either Paddocks or Famous 4 - and when i start on the other more difficult to source bits, probably www.lrseries.com

johnny - TBH, if yer going to do it properly, go for POR - it's epoxy based, so cures in any weather, and really does a bloody good job of sealing the metalwork. Late/machine paint - is that still enamel, or has that gone the Epoxy route aswell ?

Busy day today :D

Got the clutch slave, clutch flex fited at last, then looked at the hardline bracket and fitted that to the block where it should be.

  • Took the LiftPump off, ready for replacement tomorrow.
  • Took the FuelFilter off aswell
  • Started on removing the seatbox.
  • Also started looking at the bodged brake Bias - trying to decide if I want to fabricate a new bracket and mount it properly, or just pull it out and fit a 3-way instead (as it should be).
  • Part-Drained the tank, ready for cleaning.
  • Fitted the front prop.
  • Popped the front drums off to check the pads and drums - they're in Ok-ish nick.
Then I decided it was time to address the buckled Crossmember below the bellhousing.... annoyingly, I didn't take a "Before" picture, just a few during the work - but it was badly crushed, and pushed UP into the bellhousing - **** knows how it happened, but I suspect either off-road, or it fell of a jack sometime.

So, 1st thing was to cut out the uttery ****ed front section, and make a plate for it...
P1010011-1.jpg

Now, in most cases, 30 years of rot ends up in the legs or kickdowns, in my case.....
P1010010-1.jpg

I started to cut and the garage erupted in a cloud of metal powder, sand and **** knows what else.... had to drop the grinder and grab my breathing gear - it was THAT bad. What didn't end up on the floor after I cut the lower panel out, ended up in my sleeves and boots.
P1010008-1.jpg

I didn't take a completed shot - think i've bored you all enough with plates and patching. I've spotted a few more places that have been patched - but the work looks a lot better than the stuff so far, so i'll leave it for now.

Tomorrow, i hope, is mechanical-type-stuff and welding day.
Pump,filters,tappets,brakes,seatbox,clutch bleed rest-of-dash :D

its gone the epoxy 2 pack route to make the paint harden yer need to add an accelerant ( same **** they use on canal barges nowadays):cool:

Seatbox out at last, the tool locker is unsurprisingly rotted, but not too badly - Fixable for now.....

Although, the Comedy Aluminium plate I pulled out that "repaired" the gaping hole proved, once again to be remarkably scary....I managed to trace the writing so It took a better picture......makes you wonder where the rest of the box went.....and if it's still got whatever it held inside it ... :D

Will make a repair panel tomorrow, and rivet it in place, just like the original, paint, seal and Schultz.

Once that's done I can plod on with this (never ending) list:

**deep breath**

Flush Fuel tank, remount
Check Gearbox for Reverse linkage fault - it's a ****er to get out of reverse once it's in... ?
Box back in, sealed and bolted with Stainless fixings
Put the dash back together completly
Find some closed cell foam seals for the floors, fit and mount floors and tunnel.
Fit new gaiters
Prime up the bulkhead and pillars
Adjust steering
Fit new heater hoses
Make a battery holder
Oil change, filter change
Rad Back on, front panel back on, rub down and prime, paint
Test Engine
Fit Swivel Gaiters
Fill front diff with oil

Wheels back on
New multi connectors onto lighting loom
