It gets worse - While i was looking under the body and welding ma chassis, i thought "I'll just check the brake lines" ...... to be greeted by a bodged in Bias valve held in by a cable tie....... so that ****s coming out, then >:/

Anyway - FINALLY got round to finishing the dumbirons tonight :D
Driver side leg was basically F.U.B.A.R'd so I cut all the ****e out....which left me with a big job on my hands...heres ma leg after the onslaught...

4mm plate is a bitch to bend without a press or guillotine, so notching and seaming is the call of the day..

All done after tidying up the new leg and a lot of slag falling into my gauntlets and boots. I'm running CO2 ATM, not my normal AR/Co mix - which makes for a less forgiving weldpool if it picks up some ****e...

I've got a little more to weld before I put the front axle back on, but after that, I can paint the bulkhead, and then wheel him in and out while I repair the dash and work on the seatbox etc.

Happy days indeed. That's really nicely done. I'm gonna have to make sure my welding is nice and tidy aren't I, before I dare put any pictures up on here!
 
Looking good, hopefully I can make progress like this with mine soon!

As a relative newbie to welding, i.e. never really welded on a car before.....would you recommend having a go or drafting a mate in to do it for me? I got footwells and bulkhead outriggers to do - so far....

Well, The beast way to learn, is by doing fella - grab yourself some steel sheet from yer local panel shop, and cut some squares and rectangle etc, and play with your welder seetings to get a feel on how it works, behaves and sounds while welding.... try welding some of the dummy sheets together with a gap between the joints as it'll help ya get used to when the panelwork blows through :D

Footwells and outriggers are a pretty good place to start as it's out of the way, and you've hopefully still got some good steel to weld onto....
 
nice work there but can a ask why evrayone uses mig and not stick ?

I prefer MIG over stick any day. Easier to strike, better current control, better pool, cleaner weld, much better penetration in most cases, good heat management, lower spatter, and it's easier to clean up.

I do, however like to break out "bertha" when i've got an outside job to do. She's a 15 year old 120A passive cooled Arc welder and works as fresh as the day she was made :D
 
ware i work we call mig polie filler lol a just dun my haf chassis with stick and the welds are as clean as it gets all try and find a photo

I'll second that - not seen ones as clean as that for a very long time. Apart from mine, that is :D
I'd try and find some piccies of the cut and shut trailer I built for a friend in his boatyard a year back, but I can't be arsed.
