Hi all,
I bought a disco 300tdi es auto yesterday but he starter motor just clicks? Im thinking either solenoid or earth strap? What's your opinion? Were would the earth strap be? Also I checked the transmission oil and its quite a lot above max but I checked this without going through the box p d r ect is this normal? Any help would be great thanks in advance

#### soliniod with a hammer if it starts its likely to be the soliniod sticking, if not check the earths

I tried the trusty hammer trick yesterday but came to no avail. Ive just phoned local scrappy £45 so if all else fails £45 is cheap enough. Is there an earth strap from the starter to the body or are they earthed on the engine? Sorry sjould of looked yesterday really :-/

check main battery cable to starter has clean connection as well

^^wot he says^^

Also check for internal corrosion of the main battery cables where they are soldered into the battery clamps, that had me scratching my head for a good few hours once ;)

:D ive had a few of the old head scratches myself. Took me a full week to find a hairline crack on an outlet feed from a fuel tank on a shogun!

Thing is..... If you turn the key and it only clicks once, it is the starter solenoid sticking. If it clicks over and over again then it's just not getting enough power.......

Ive charged the battery and it's still the same (admitted it said it was full charged after an hour) it sounds as if the starter motor is jammimg. The solenoid throws it out then its not spinning the flywheel any ideas because im stumped! Ive even got the jump leads from my other car on it too still the same. Ive tried earthing it straight to the battery still no joy. Really starting to bug me now:mad:

Well ive tried 2 good batteries., earthed it straight to the starter motor.........!
Ive also had the starter motor tested and they said it was fine but......after phoning them back to find out what test they did and to make sure I didn't have a lazy one hes reply wss and I repeat "well it ripped into a lump of wood"!! But it would still do that if it was lazy wouldn't it??

Get a set of decent jump leads.
Firstly connect one from the battery negative to the engine. Turn the key. If the starter turns over then you've got an earthing issue. If it doesn't leave the jump lead connected.
Then using the other jump lead connect from the battery live direct to the starter. Expect sparks but the starter should crank over.
If it doesn't - are you certain that the engine isn't seized?

I've tried the jumps leads on it but no luck. I thought the same but I can turn the engine over manually on the crankshaft. Its really bugging me now:(

If I can turn the engine slightly on the crankshaft it cant be seized can it? Also the engine turns over just really slow on the starter motor?
