ho so I have had this problem for months now and its smoke coming from the exhaust was told my engine was done for so i put a good working one in and it was smoking so then I changed every filter and still smoking then I was told to look at the turbo so have put a new one on and no smoke till I drive it so i have not changed the fuel filter as this was new a year a go and the exhaust
Now the smoke dos not get worse it just smokes the same no matter how hard you drive but the car has been run down on fuel a bit this month have gone down to 2 miles and have just put 2 Jerry cans in then try running it out and so on so what do you think do I need to change the fuel filter or am I not looking in the right place is it the injectors please help me out thanks

have you tried driving it hard for several miles as you say it has been smoking for months perhaps silencer has got damp inside with soot and some oil?

No not yet as I still have steam or white smoke coming from the oil filler cap and would like to sort this out 1st but this dont come till the engine is up to temperature lust like the smoke from the exhaust

Can get oil cap steam from lots of short runs.
Can turn into mayonnaise which people often mistake for headgasket failure.

- Mayo in cap is not definitive test of HG failure only sometimes a sign -

No mayo on it no smoke from Dipstick just smoke wean i get up to 30/40 mpa wean its up to temperature can have it Idaline for 2 hours no smoke drive at 20 25 mpa no smoke put my foot down starts to smoke a little bit then lots pull over let itidall for a minute or 2 smoke has gone go for a drive and its back

No idea how to fix it but haven't seen any mention of having to top up expansion tank, and how much/often? the water must be coming from somewhere.

You seem to have 2 posts for the same issue so I put this on both.

If egr cooler is leaking it should be losing some. That needs sorting either way.

Sniff test is cheap and easy if you think HG.
Dye goes in coolant reacts and shows if combustion gasses present

No have checked that new fuel and cleared the lines out
Have you taken the fuel tank off and checked that there is no water in there because you mention that the smoke stops when left to idle, if there is water it could be below the fuel take up level until you start driving again. Then it could be moving in the tank and picked up by the fuel line. I only suggest this because you said the smoke stops when stationary.
If anyone else can add or critic my comments regarding the fuel take up point, please do.
Tricky.

I think it’s good possibility.
Fuel floats on water so could make it intermittent or apparent when travelling. Wouldn’t need a lot in there to contaminate
Sometimes filler funnel can leak water in if it’s corroded.

Could also be shyte diesel. I’ve seen cars cut out from water in fuel after a fill up before.

If there is a water separator on your fuel filter check it and see what comes out?

Ok so the egr is dripping not a lot I need to pull it off to check it out as I just can not figure out why I am getting smoke under load but not on tikover

Ok so i done a leak off test to day I ran the cat for 1 minute 30 seconds and what I got was
From front to back
1 20 mil
2 30 mil
3 30 mil
4 30 mil
5 20 mil
6 20 mil
So would you say I am over fueling on 1/5/6
As I have taken the inlet off and 1/5/6 are wet as well if you put your finger in the top hole next to the injector
And i weant a bit mad and got my blowtorch out and put a bit of heat on the rear silencer and and she was smoking like a good one so I think I have oil or Diesel in it how do I get that out thanks justin
