Has any one gone for a mot arfter tuning up the pump I
Have turned up the turbo and the pump .
I get a bit of smoke when I start it up and when I boot it
Got to mot it soon !!! ( when I sort out all the rust tho haha )

When it comes to MOT time you can just wind things back a bit if it fails,
or run it on veg oil as this will reduce smoke by quite a bit.
 
I used a very fat flat headed bit on a small ratchet to get mine out and then replaced them with 10mm bolts which are much easier to remove if you ever need to get them out again.
 
Sorry to bump the thread but I cant seem to get the 4 flat head screws undone for the cover

A well fitting screwdriver, lots of downwards pressure (grab an extra pair of hands if necessary) and a spanner on the screwdriver handle. Once they crack they'll spin out by hand.
 
I did the top adjustment and all was fine and bow I want to do more recon I should return it to its original postion?
 
Tried dialing my pump back a bit today,

Grub screw keeps getting moved by the nut, now have no idea where it is in terms of smoke-power,

Can I take the nut all the way off, grease it up and then put it back on ?

Or is doing that going to cause the grub screw to fall out ?
 
Just done this mod ! Did 2x on torxs star wheel did 360 degrees and on diaphragm did bout 110 from start.
Wow !!! What a difference, much sharper, only just got this Disco form Markieboi couple of weeks ago was well worth. Grand all nice and solid, was missing V8s but now feel bit better.
 
There bloody tight got the biggest flat head I have using a snapper on the flat head aswell

Get a big screwdriver on them with a pair of grips on the screwdriver, put some twist pressure on and tap the top of the screwdriver with a hammer, they will crack off easy:)

And then replace them with 10mm bolts which will be a lot easier to remove with a little ratchet next time you take it apart. Best thing I ever did to mine.
 
I've had my 300tdi auto for a few months now and have had to put up with it beign like a snail setting off,so bad when cold I've had to put it in low to get up the hill out of the street!
So after searching the web and reading all the info I decided to "tweek" the injector pump, and all I can say is "wow!". What a difference,it's like a different motor now. Before it was pathetic, even dangerous setting off and up hills it was terrible,put your foot down to keep your momentum and it would not have enough guts to keep it in top gear so it would kick down a gear which is great,ease your foot off and it would go back in top a little too early and you'd have to kick down again and so on and so on, so you can imagine what it was like up a long hill.
Now it's got lots more pulling power so setting off is totaly at the other end of the scale,it goes like stink! And it's definitely got more grunt all through the revs so uphill you don't need to put your foot on the throttle as much so kickdown isn't used as much.
As for fuel consumption it seems to be the same,I've done the same 60mile journey to work and it dosn't seem to have used any more.

Definitely worth thinking about and it only takes 20 mins to do!
Well done that man If you boost the turbo as well it will be even better,,,,looks like a muddy day on ya pic lol:)

Here's Some pics of what I did to my injector pump

just a word of warning, if you do these mods be aware that you could potentialy damage your engine if not done correctly and the pics are of what I did to mine so please don't blame me if it all goes tits up, thanks

looking from the drivers side wing you will see the top of the pump like this

Under the cap in the middle of the cover is the smoke screw, this will affect low boost and is a must for all autos. Lever the cap out then mark the torx bolt in the middle of the locknut to the pump body, loosen the locknut so the bolt will turn free and turn the torx bolt in 1 1/2 to 2 turns clockwise then tighten the locknut. Try it up the road to see if it smokes too much, if it does back it off until it stops smoking.

Once that's done remove the 4 screws from the top of the cover( mine had 2 screws and 2 torx that hold the throttle position sensor on)
The cover should pop up on it's own, try not to twist it side to side as you don't want to alter the position of the diaphram that's below it.
Move the cover out of the way and leave it hanging on the pipe to reveal this

you should see a little pop mark on the inner part of the diaphram mark this to the pump body so you know where to put it back to.
Pull the diaphram out and you will see it looks like this,the score mark on the taper at the end is where the fuel pin rides on,if there is two marks it has been adjusted before

then if you look in the pump where you took the diaphram out you will see a spring,plastic collar and the star wheel like so

take the spring and collar out and for fcuks sake don't loose them!*
Mark the star wheel to the body so you know the original position and turn it clockwise 1/4 of a turn at a time(you'll have to build it all back up and try it up the road) if it dose'nt smoke turn it another 1/4 of a turn.
I turned mine one full turn (360 degrees) any more and it started to smoke too much. To turn the star wheel put a screwdriver between the star wheel and the pump body and gently flick it round.

The star wheel adjusts the automatic fuel control

Now you need to take the cover off again and turn up the full load fuel delivery by adjusting the diaphram. It needs to be turned clockwise between 90 and 120 degrees,start at 90 and see how it is if it dosn't smoke too much go some more.

you could do all these adjustments at once but if it smokes badly you won't know which to back off

It's still too early to tell but if anything I'm getting better mpg although because I've loads more power now I've got my foot down more! So when the noveltys worn off I'll be able to work it out better

If you look at the links I put in post 4 it explains it all in detail and will give you a better understanding of what to do

Since then it will not start at all, no diesel to injectors, all the usual stuff ok. Have an anti theft error on the ECU which will not clear and yet all the normal indicators suggest the immobiliser is switching off when ignition is switched on. Any suggestions?

I've done this at the weekend, done 1/2 on torx, no smoke so ended up going a full 2 turns still not smoking more than normal, 1 1/2 on star key and half turn on diaphragm. Still not smoking and seems just as gutless. Bit more responsive low end but still struggle to get past 70.

I am running 275/75/16 bfg a/t's would that be the problem?

The tyre sizes will make the final gearing longer so they will dull any acceleration, but you should still be able to do better than 70mph.

I would be looking elsewhere.

Have you done the following (I've not read this whole thread so forgive me if I duplicate anything):

1. Changed the air filter?

2. Changed the fuel filter?

3. Cleaned the fuel separator?

4. Replaced the lift pump?

5. Changed the transmission oils and greased the props?

6. Checked the brakes for binding?

Air filter is being changed to a pipercross element the weekend along with egr being removed and decat. Oil n fuel filters being done aswell. Spose I should of done that lot first before tweaking it
 
Right I'm getting somewhere, loads better low down but doesn't feel as good top end.

Diaphragm is where is needs to be, do I need to adjust the star key back a bit?

Egr is gone, full service with some injector cleaner in
