One big ass starter motor :eek: this is it next to the RV8 one and it weighs in at about 10kg so its properly hefty!







I picked up a Corvette zero balance flywheel for free too








Finally one 360* swivelling stainless steel thermostat housing



 
Why a new carb when you said the first one was perfect? And the intake is off a what brand motor?:scratching_chin:

This bolt was for the spring plate which holds the axle to the spring.....now I'd guess it broke at about 45ft/lbs given that my torque wrench was beginning to move the clicker ever so slightly and it felt a little tight.
The torque setting on these is meant to be 58ft/lbs which isn't even a huge amount! I use a Britool wrench and its been calibrated recently so theres nothing wrong with that or the setting as I tightened up the original bolts on the other side of the axle no problem with it.

Fecking ****part strikes again! Never use them for anything important no matter how small it is :mad:

Looks like a used self locking nut and was the bolt the right grade

I would hope it's the right grade as it's a snapped u-bolt that holds the axle on :eek:

So doc....... Were the rest of the u-bolts you fitted sh*tpart? :p
 
Its a brand new bolt and a brand new locking nut......so don't jump to conclusions.

New bolts are metric old ones are imperial so theres no way one of my old UNF bolts would fit an M12 thread :doh:


The other U bolts have been the old ones, the inner U bolt just isn't long enough now though so needed one with a few more mm thread so I could get it through the spring plate to start tightening it up. The 109 ones give you that extra bit so you can get it started on these axles

Doesn't need lube theres oil on the bolt and given it snapped at least 10ft/lbs too early its not like I want that bolt on my series anyway!

I'm gonna try and get the boxes bolted up this week after uni ;) swinging by the landrover garage to see about a new axle bolt first though :mad: my clutch is in the UK now so it might arrive this week if I'm lucky :D and engine rubbers are being ordered from real steel while I make up the chassis side weld in plates as they're just two triangles with a pipe between :)
 
Did as much as I could today before realising I was out of bolts to fit the seatbox and obviously cant fit the rear axle until the front is back together so I can roll it out of the corner and get the shafts out :(

Going to write a shopping list for tomorrow so I can get cracking in the morning
 
Turns out the rover V8 thermostat fits in nicely :) so thats that done! Will have a better update tomorrow as I'm planning to fit the top end of the engine back on!
 
Bastard series has yet again ****ed me off......turns out the rear bolts were 109 1 tonne and had spacer plates on them so they could be done up tight enough for the rear :doh: I could have just swapped over a front and rear bolt but never mind new old stock 109 rear on the way to me now.

Anyway after a few hours of toiling and struggling in the ****ing wet I got the axles completed and three of the four brakes un stuck. Passenger one is still seized up but a little tug forward with the disco should free it up :)

Yeah like a cm if that....they mounts are only about that much thicker than the original series ones

They look a bit thicker than they are as they come up round the side of the casing a bit more
