Gearbox refurb it is then, but what suffix is it ! The head scratcher continues......... well its been factory refurbished at on stage hence the id plate, then the casing has a serial number ending ‘c’ but the bell housing is defgo a s111. The reverse gear is a double geared type so that indicates a s11.
No bloody idea !

All I know is that all the gears are in good condition, I’ll replace bearings, seals and gaskest and build back up.

Can you tell that I’m back at work? Progress has slowed up somewhat, but engine is back, painted with new pistons and bearings installed. Timing and core plugs all done. Next stage is clean and fit flywheel housing, flywheel, sump and head.

Thanks Steve, hmm the spread sheet is rather long and the numbers in the total box is growing exponentially. I will be very close to my budget estimate when complete maybe a few hundred over. My view is I'd rather wait for quality than rush and regret!

Bulkhead back from the galvanisers today ! A great job ! A little bit of cleaning and it’ll be ready for t wash, seam sealer (as per original) and painting marine blue! Cant wait to see a bit of colour on the old girl !

Job for today, fit the wheels. First of all I decided to clean up the paint off the flange that the nut sits on as I’ve seen them rattle loose on a tractor when fresh painted wheels were fitted.

Gearbox back together and fitted to the chassis, just waiting for thrust bearing and the engine can go in. Ordered a new water pump, handbrake shoes, fuel pipes and prop shafts. This week need to send the fuel pump and injectors off for refurb (any suggestion as to who to send them too?)

did the gearbox rebuild throw up any issues , wear patterns , worn parts.. ? Just interested to see what's to be expected as I have a spare series 3 box that I have plans to refurbish so if there are any areas that are commonly subject to heavy wear then I can pay particular attention to those when rebuilding mine ..

Hi. I am doing a rebuild on my dormobile on another thread.. for thé bulkhead, I have hacked out a footwell and when i get it back together, I was toying with the idea of galvanizing the bulkhead. I have heard of them distorting during the hot dip. What was your experience? How does it work if you cannot sandblast every nook and cranny. Does it still galvanise properly? Thanks
