i got my series 3 for my 13th birthday after spending years playing with my parents landies.

it was totally dead and we had to replace the rings and enjector pump to get it running

since then i have dropped a 200di into it which is the best thing ive done to it yet

the trouble is being a proper landy it is very chassis rotten (probably repairable with a lot of work) but as i am planning to use it for a first car i have decided to start again

i have bought a second hand chassis in perfect condition on ebay and have had it galvanised

so being 15 now i am planning to fully rebuild it but it obviously wont be as good as other peoples because of a lack of funds but im going to give it a go.

the galvanised chassis (good as new) it has had a military crossmember welded onto the back but i dont know why because the rest of it i dont think has been near a puddle let alone a pay and play, after scraping the paint off it was shiny metal.

the new wings sanded down ready for painting

the new colour i am brush and roller painting it which will be a whole new experience but im up for the challenge

obviously i am going to tackle as much as possible by myself and hope to learn a lot more about the landy world

so wish me luck and i will keep posting pics on here of whats been going on

hey there, good work its looking good.

how did the 200tdi fit into the series bay, i think mine is going to be a tight squeeze, and i dont wont to move the grille forward...

not sure how you do it with the turbo, but minus the turbo was easy, without its turbo you can leave the series rad in, bolt the series engine mounts onto the tdi block, add a few studs to the flywheel housing and drop it in, wasnt actually as hard as i thought it was going to be

i used this website, printed it off and followed it step by step and it worked!!

Use a 300tdi turbo and it's a lot easier, just a straight swap. The 200tdi turbo will fit in a SWB but it's tight. The deeper chassis rails on a LWB means the 200 turbo won't fit in.

i would love to put the turbo on mine but as im going to be 17 and it being my first car i think it would be totally impossible to insure, unless i lie and say it still has a 2.25 diesel in it, which is probably what ill do anyway but the turbo is a bit more obvious

i think somewere my dad has a 300tdi turbo so i could "borrow" it from him

Whats it like power wise without the turbo. I remember driving a disco when i was an apprentice and it felt so gutless until the turbo started to boost

Hi a turbo does fit in to a 109 chassies i and they go very well

the power isnt massively improved, glenconye says that it gives out about 80-85 bhp which isnt massive but is and improvement on 2.25, its the low down torque, fast starting and good mpg which is the improvement

mine gets used mainly on the farm towing so there is a massive improvement with the torque and it will start almost first crank whether its 30 or -20, and my mum has one in her series 3 88" and that does about 30 mpg which isnt bad either.

i would say its a halfway between the old 2.25 and the full 200tdi

im sure they are brilliant road cars with the turbo but i would imagine they are a bit dangerous on roundabouts if you have an unstable right foot!!

wouldnt it be just as easy with turbo less intercooler

right, so basicly it will fit but its tight, its an 88" but built on a shortened discovery chassis. the engine is in place on the chassis now and im going to start to build up onto it as soon as the bulkhead is finnished being painted.

by what ive gathered, the addition of the larger discovery rad whith the intercooler and oil cooler makes it too big to clear the viscous, could i then use individual rad in the front then a top mount intercooler or mabe a wing mount then a small oil cooler somewhere else.

or could i remove the viscous fan and associated pullys, use an electric rad fan inbetween the rad and the grill as ther is a substantial space i think i could squeese one, just seems like waisted space to me

i had to take my viscous fan off anyway it wont fit between the series rad either

just unscrew the fan from the pulley, even then theres only about 1 inch of room but it does go in

ive fitted an electric fan as you said in between the grill and the rad, it almost looks like its supposed to be there!!!

Hi i used the discovery rad and fitted a electric fan in front the radiator then in front off that i used a intercooler from a mitsbushi l200 the one that sits on top off the engine. Fits nice let me know if u want any pics

all of the parts that ive ordered have turned up now exept for one door hinge which paddocks didnt have in stock

so half term is coming up and i have friday off aswell and i will be doing the landy every day that im not working to earn money to spend on the landy, so a lot is going to be happening in the holidays and i will try and keep you posted on everything that is happening
