Hi can anyone tell me how to clean my sedimeter on a 300tdi. I'm not sure how to shut the fuel off. I doubt this has ever been done on my car so will probably be a b*****d to get it off !

you don't need to shut the fuel off cos it only flows when the pumps switched on. Just buy a new sedimentor. cos you'll snap the draincock when you try to empty it.
 
dont bother buying 1, and dont bother with the drain plug!
on the top of the sedimentor is an 11mm bolt that runs down and holds it to the bracket with your fuel lines (you dont have to mess with them!), undo that and put sumat under to catch any fuel spilled when you take the sedimentor off. now its off clean it out and refit with new seal if poss.. will take you 10-20 mins and well worth doing ;)

hi guys, i was going to do mine today, i know its some where begind a rear wheel, however i couldnt find it! sorry for my dumbness but does anyone have any pics or anything ??
 
dam, well i got told it was behind the rear wheel. i cant see nothing ! it all just looks mucky lol. could do with doing this tho, i know it has never ever been done
 
found this on another thread..... will have a better look tomoro, hope it helps.





You'll need to get right under it to see it, should be just above the rear axel, tucked in by the inside of the right hand (drivers) main chassis beam.

Could not have one fitted I suppose, I know people who have taken them off. Dunno why you would though, unless the jap motors arent fitted with it anyway. It does give you better filter life and it don't take a lot of looking after so I'm gonna leave mine fitted.

The fuel sedimenter is JUST forward of the rear axle, fastened to the drivers side chassis rail. It looks like a filter housing.

I dont know why that ended up on this thread! Yeah it is expensive but cheaper than the chemicals to clean your drive!
 
some people do remove them! if the fuel line joints corrode and leak then you suck in air wich causes problems...a few have removed them with no hassle as it still goes through the fuel filter in the engine bay,but the sedimentor does exactly what its designed for..you will see when you remove it lol and yes you will have to get under as its on the inner side of the chassis higher up but its easy to do. GET STUCK IN :D
 
thanks for that, just had a look and found it. ! no new rubber or owt though so will just remove the 11mm nut and see wat happends.
