What security devices did you have fitted AT THE TIME YOUR LANDY WAS STOLEN?

No matter what you put on them by the sound of things if they want it they will get it even pedal locks won't stop them they just cut brake pedal it needs to be connected to accelerater at least they can't drive it with it being on brake it still can be driven

It doesn't matter what pedal it's on. It can still be easily nicked.
 
of course you can not stop someone stealing whatever they want to steal.... but you CAN slow them down and make life more difficult for them.

Its all a game of making things inconvenient for the bad guys....

I understand your point on trackers and agree they are good... but... i disagree with that statement. A tracker ain't gonna stop it being damaged and nicked... just stop it getting very far and make it easy to find - unless it's put straight into a metal box or the electrics fried to disable the tracker! (I think the really good trackers can protect against this?)
 
It was stolen from my drive when I was not in the uk disc lock, clutch lock, toad alarm/immobiliser and chained to the ground. But as I was away for 6 months the bastards had plenty of time to get round all of that.

I am always delighted to get into the pros and cons of trackers but really don't want to hijack the thread.

A tracker will do exactly what it says on the box... and each one will do different things. You can protect against electrical interference and attempted circuit frying quite easily... and as I have said before it is all about making things more difficult for the thief... you can not make it impossible for them.

I just happen to believe a good quality HUB device is the best tool available when used properly.:D

Yup, think we've had most of those discussions before! I agree trackers are great, i was mearly disagreeing with the context in which you were advertising trackers :) Tracking won't help you keep it on your drive, it will stop it going very far, help recover it and be a good deterant :)

And on some you can push a button and it will shut off and lock the doors on the durdy bastids
 
There is a principle of law in this country that if you take action... and that action has an effect... then you are criminally responsible for the action.

IE

If I turn off the engine of my landy because a thief has nicked it.... and they crash the car because they were not expecting the engine to stop... I am criminally responsible for any resulting damage or injury...

Ultimate madness in my opinion but the law nonetheless.

Hence If I lock them in the car and it catches fire - I am criminally responsible for their death.

If they strangle themselves trying to release a locked seat belt.... I am also responsible.

Insane... but true

Different here then you can have those in the car (in large cities) the cops got the thing to track stolen cars with and then activate it and then they is caught.
Also they set up sting cars and wait for them to get stolen then they shut the car off, Steering doesn't lock and nap the bastids. They don't do it on motor ways. Usually at stop signs or traffic lites when they pull away from a stop so slow speed, also they lock the doors
 
Yes... I understand that they do things differently in the USA... and maybe some of those things are better.

However we are a little more civilised over here and believe that asking our criminals not to steal our posessions is far more British than actually catching them afterwards.

It is also more cost effective.

We find that we have to spend far less on our constabulary is we actually do not chase the criminals afterwards. This is mitigated by making people insure their vehicles and forcing the insurance company to take the fall when one goes missing. They can then get their cost back with interest from the victim through increased premiums. Since our insurance companies are wholly or partly owned through rich ****ers with shares... everyone who is considered to be of importance in this issue is happy and the only one to suffer is the victim of crime.

Surely you must see that this is the more civilised way to deal with crime... rather than the "Bring 'm to justice" kind of vigilante attitude that the USA seems to adopt?

1 of the things that I have found out is that car thefts in the UK are 1in 40. and in the USA it is 1 in 200 get stolen. So your car theft rate is 5x that of ours. And our insurance is private owned also, but ours cost more than yours we pay 3,360 pounds a year no claims in 20 yrs for 2 vehicles
