You got a sketch up of what the back end is going to look like or you keeping it a surprise?

The bed? the plan at the min is just a basic flat bed with lashing points down the side, seems the most practical option.

I need to think of a good way of attaching it to the chassis though.
 
I'd level the chassis up and run two lengths of box along the rails level and weld on vertical uprights front and rear, couple of cross members in it as a basic frame work then build a bed that you can bolt on to that, make it modular and then you can interchange the body later on if you want.

Thinking about it, doing it that way means you could custom build a camper unit with fold down jack legs that you could back under, lift the legs and drive away.
 
snowed and hailed on and off all day so ive only got the sides welded on,
Was a bit trickier than i imagined with the curve of the b pillar.

Basic bed frame, the chassis will be leveled out with some 3" channel.

I might put one of those truck style bumpers on the back with some recovery points.

Took the whole week off so hoping to have it MOTable by the end of the week.

The gaps in the cab are filled now.

I thought it might look odd with the wheels right behind the cab but doesnt look too bad.

Not much left now,
Although i dont really know what will be needed to get through the MOT, could be a fair bit of work yet:rolleyes:

Before you get carried away with that bed I would be asking for advice on the rear overhang behind the wheels, that looks a bit too long for the wheelbase.

In all fairness, the post i got the pic off said its just for lightweight but long materials.

Does bring me to think about what sort of weight this thing can safely take.
The bed will weigh less than the rear of the disco body, and is stronger but does around 500kg sound about right?

Ive had much more in the back of my old disco:oops:
 
GVW is 2720kgs, less 300kgs of a 2080kg tare and I'd say a 1000kg payload, just a guesstimate, but any public weighbridge in your area should let you roll over it to see your tare weight.

If you're gonna load it up good then maybe fit RRC air springs on the back to a small electric compressor with a small reservoir, means you can self level, enjoying a soft ride when empty and level ride when loaded heavy, all at the press of 2 rocker switches, just means old bill not looking at you for your saggy arze lol

All the bits are readily available on fleabay for not a lot of wedge, I really hope it passes for you, come a long way from you threatening to scrap it :)

Theres not much left to do, just a few finishing bits and patching the sill
Trying to sort out insurance too.

Try NFU mutual for insurance, I know they're farmers but they are quite easy going with modified land rovers and as long as you're honest and upfront they should be fine with pictures of the mods you've done.

They wouldn't insure mine, as I live in a city ... 'the post code isn't covered' was what they said ...
