Hi,

I'm looking for a 90 at present and almost certainly prices are being overly inflated. I think its now getting to the point that people who are genuinely interested and know what they want are just waiting it out until the current frenzy is over and things settle down.

Ebay seems to be the worst for this - Gumtree and Preloved prices are a little more realistic.

Purely speaking as someone actively looking to buy (even though yours would be out of my league anyway!) I think the price is certainly putting people off. You may get more joy putting on a reserve and opening up bidding a little lower to get things moving, rather than going the classified route.

Hope you don't mind the twopenneth.

Cheers

I both agree and dis-agree. Prices at the mo are high,or people are trying to sell high, they are being ridiculous and trying to cash in on the end of production and asking silly money for stuff that are sheds.
James' is a fantastic example, restored examples have always commanded high prices, or at least advertised as such, just as they are now, nothing has changed with that, just the lower priced ones have got higher.

And as someone else who has advertised their 90 lately, the price I put it up at is the same as I would have done 6 months a year ago.

Hiya. Hope no offence taken. None intended. Just purely a guess as to why things might be quiet on such a solid motor.

I would certainly think about sticking a reserve on and going the bid route if you are going to stick with ebay.

Defender2.net would also be worth a punt if you haven't tried there already.

Cheers guys

No offence taken either :) Was just trying to give my thoughts.
For me obviously the price is the biggest factor, but what you've got to think is, how many people have £9-10k sat about to buy a LR?
Not many would be my view. It's waiting for the right buyer, probably an enthusiast who loves them for what they are and like exactly what you have done. It's just how long that takes which is the issue.

I also agree ref an auction, it certainly gets people viewing and interested, but I think I will put mine on a classified next and try that before I go down that route.
If I had some dry, secure storage I wouldn't be so bothered and just keep it until a right buyer comes along, but I haven't, and it's kind of annoying when I have to walk past it every day and think how much money is just sat on the drive not doing a lot for the most part.
I would rather someone else enjoy it, but on the other hand I don't want to give it away either.

I might put it on as an auction if I don't have any interest after the weekend.

It might also be worth sorting the wings and doors, then it will look a lot tidier. Problem is that's looking to be at least £2k as the whole thing would have to be painted and I don't think I will get that back.

As I have said before I have at least £9k in it and would like to see that back ideally.

I need to add some pics of the underneath at some point.

I'm also wondering whether to remove the expedition mods and selling them separately. Thoughts?

Give it time ,aarons right not many people have 10k sat in the drawer to buy a landy (i certainly dont !)

If you want to sell fast then i get that but constantly relisting may not be the way to go as it may put people off

The right person will come along and for what its worth i think its worth 10k but you may be better off removing some of the fancy bits and selling seperate if you have the standard parts to go back on

I was thinking about removing stuff, but realistically the only things I can remove is the roof rack and the dual batteries and at that I can't really take the ladder off as it is drilled through the rear bulkhead capping.

It is stored at my parents for now (although still outside) so there is no rush to get it sold. If I still have it by the time the weather is getting better I'll start tackling some of the bodywork

When I sold my 90 I thought I had taken plenty of photos but genuine buyers who were willing to travel emailed me asking for pics of bulkhead, chassis, underneath etc. When you get a good day I would perhaps consider taking some for when people ask? Good luck with your sale. What you need is a bit of snow really to get people's interest up!

Yeah, there is hopefully some snow coming in the next couple of weeks.

greyhair has also just said I need more pics, so will be up on the farm taking some more tomorrow I think.

I have costed up the work and to replace both doors, hinges, locks, cards and wings and then a full respray will be £1500 plus any seals I need to cut off. Doesn't seem too bad as I think it will probably add more than that in value, though I am struggling for free time at the moment due to the rally. Also, strangely whilst the drivers door is a bit holey at the bottom the passenger one is solid, so could just replace the skin. Bit weird!

did you sell the roof tent? if not perhaps add that to the ad and include it in the price also you can have your classified ad with accept offers too and set it to what you will and won't accept :)

No, we haven't sold the roof tent yet, but I think I am going to try and make an expedition trailer at some point. Assuming the CX-5 doesn't constantly get stuck!

I might put best offer on it, though I'm shying away from selling it again at the moment!

No longer for sale, there are nicer ones than mine for £8500 and I don't wanna sell it for that. Roll on a possible re-engine project maybe next winter :D

I was wondering how you was getting on James, I sold mine on Sunday for £8250. Too cheap really for the time/money/parts put into it, but it is what it is.
Onwards and upwards with the new project I think, I can't dwell on the past or if, buts and maybe's any longer than I already have.

Yeah, that's not much for the effort that you put in.

I had zero interest, other than someone who I think was trying to get my address so he could steal it!

I'm gonna store it for a while and then will do anther round of work on it when I have space and have saved up a bit.
It'll be:
New doors and wings
Respray
Either engine refurb or swap for something else
Gearbox recon
Something with the diffs
