Hello all new to l322 ownership, I’ve been recommended to post over here about my rusty situation. I’m currently located in Kent I’ve bought quite a rusty Range Rover I’ve attached a few photos and wondered if anyone could recommend a place to get sorted in Kent and if anyone knew a rough price. Thanks

As I said in response to your first post, that is the worst I have ever seen. Before doing anything to that I , personally, would be going over everything with a fine toothcomb. The state of those arches point to lack of care and maintenance. Find out what else has been scrimped on.

Everything else is all good full service history down to the last detail engine and mechanical wise. The car lived it’s life in the countryside on a farm and the arch is full of mud so that’s why I believe the arches got into that state.
 
Those arches are made of boron steel if you get it welded by someone who doesn't know what they're doing the weld will crack because it will become brittle if too much heat is put into the welding process..Par for the course,JLR's attempt to reduce the weight of a two and a half ton brick.

My L322 has lived her life mainly next to the sea and on the farm. She has never looked like that. Still it's yours and if you're happy that someone who let their vehicle get in that state has looked after it, enjoy her :)

He is indeed. It's not a simple job though. I think someone is finally doing panels , sure I saw a link somewhere. The big issue is how far the corrosion has travelled. If not kept on top of the L322 can be a nightmare. I've had my arches done twice in 11yrs and she's about to be done for the 3rd time. Which is basically every 3 to 4 years.
Then again I am a bit OCD about corrosion and rust. The only reason mine wasn't done before now is lockdown and the knock on effect.
 
@Jtrigga90 ...just ignore Goldie, she's happily condemned your arches whilst admitting she's had hers done thrice, a typical case of 'painting over the cracks' purely for vanity.

Oh and there's no panels, but if there was I'd joggle them and bond them in.

Check the inner arches as well. The outer arch as you've pictured is the last bit to go from the ones I've seen. I had one that would blow air out of the inner arches when the heater was on full blast and had indoor footwell pools in addition to roof water droplets.... :eek:

They certainly seem to have gone back to basics on the L322 with tin-worm to rival the Classic.

Green oval at their best, pick the biggest part that could have a problem, and make it so. In this case the whole body tenor.gif
I have seen posts, elsewhere, with people stating they have paid £1k per side. Which I have to say, personally, if necessary I would do it........but, and it is a Beyonce size but, I never bought a 'cheap' L322. I've lavished attention on mine, as most here have theirs, last bill was over £1300. So a couple of grand doesn't seem so bad now. When the time comes it'll be done. :eek:
 
Thank you for the replies everyone, just trying to get a few quotes on the welding now so should be all good eventually. Everything else is pretty much all good, going to need rear subframe bushes doing but I’ll do that myself. The gearbox changes gear well and has had a few oil changes in its time and has never towed either.

Did they change the filter as well as the oil?;)

I think this is refreshing. Someone who believes that a vehicle, with arches like yours, has been looked after and is all good. :)

You’ve provided no useful information just the same repeated negative comments. It’s a Range Rover not a show and shine piece, it’s been used for what it’s meant for thats why it is mechanically sound and not had bodged up bodywork with filler, but thank you for the input you’re a real credit to this forum.

You know it's funny I wrote a big long post explaining the absolute money pit that these vehicles are, how deep you have to look into every nook and crannie and ended it with 'this is not to be negative or mean, just honest'. Then I decided that you seem to be enamoured with it, so to leave you to it and changed it to what I thought was actually quite a pleasant post.
So here is my last comment to you : don't post photos of sh1t, if you don't want it called sh1t. Bah bye sweetiepie.

I hope those comments aren't aimed at me, I was being as honest as I could about the welding ,the rest was just preparing you for the reality of RR ownership.Then I saw @myfirstl322 's post and I'm guessing that you have crossed paths with the wicked witch of the North aka.Vinegar Tits. I'm guessing because I've blocked her years ago.;)
