Cover the expansion cap with a thick piece of rag and VERY SLOWLY unscrew it (hot water / steam may gush out, so be careful). Then run the engine with the cap off and have a look inside. Can you see any bubbles rising or any coolant flowing?

please dont say head gasket.............:(
 
I've never known a head gasket to cause cold running and you aren't losing coolant so no need to panic.. but checking coolant movement will help diagnose the problem...
 
bloody hell that started playing up at exeter...............

don't panic!
if it's still running OK and there's no bubbles you've probably got away with it.

Take the oil filler cap off and see if there's any mayonnaise-like stuff under it.
