hello

i am looking for some advise as i have an itch i want to scratch with a range rover sport BUT i have been told they are very trouble some. the one i am looking at is a 2011 on 108k with full service and has had both belts and turbos changed with in the last 10k

so my question is how trouble some are these i do a lot of miles each year so don't want something that going to spend more time in the garage than on the road lol

ive had a 07 please vouge with the3.6 v8 i put 50k on that with only a alternator that broken i currently have a evoc 2.2 which is great but cant tow my trailer so want a upgrade to something that will i want a sport have done for a while but i am very weary

any advise welcome

But they are fantastic to drive, comfortable all day long, quick if you want it to be but also frugal, the only downside I have is the towbar is low for a tandem axle trailer, scratch that itch

i only have twin axel trailers so that not an issue just worried its going to leave me stranded left right and centre. i am in a delmer my heart says go by it my brain is saying hold on to your horses lol
 
We use our 2006 L322 3.0tdi Vogue as a daily driver, but my son is a specialist engineer who keeps on top of all the maintenance and we did and continue to set aside a 'healthy' fix it slush fund. It has to be remembered that these were and are expensive vehicles that enable you to 'waft' around in luxury, so you have to be prepared to pay the price accordingly. Not sure about the sport because as you mentioned your potential purchase has already had to have the twin turbos replaced. The TD6 has the BMW 57 7 series engine in and is pretty much bullet proof, that said ours has the dreadful GM 5 speed box. It is all swings and roundabouts, essentially you get what you pay for and unless you have a well equipped workshop and a good deal of 'spannering know how' to hand you have to be prepared to fork out. Our Rangey fund is building up to cover a replacement box and turbo eventually which will cost around £4500 when they let go.
 
If its got the V6 I wouldn't even consider it go back to another V8 :) .
Now thats not to say all V6s are gonna break a crank, but.

the 2011 is the TDv6 it and previous years has a problem with broken crancks
but in 2012 it was fitted with the SDv6
mine is a 2012 SDv6 now with 18700 km on the clock
not saying the car has been with out problems but the only engine problem i have has
was the plastic block that the oil filter srews into split at 50000 and needed changing
easy job too me around a hr to do but i dont work fast
apart from that air compreesor for suspension was taking along time to fill up header tank 3 years ago
new one at the time was 800 euro but bought a repair kit for 140 quid from 4x4 seals in UK that included postage to france
took 2 hrs remove compessor strip clean fit new seals and rings and refit been as good as gold since
last year renewed the rear suspension complete 2000 euro
at moment renewing the front end arms top and bottom and new gas legs 2400 euro

i have always done oil change every 6 months never mind the milage
RR say the 8 speed box is sealed for life its a lie change filter and oil every 100000 according to ZF
cam belt i change every 5 years needs it or not just to be safe
it a heavy car so break pads wear fast front ones last me 2 years rear 4 years
discs every 6 years but that will depend on your driving style
battery can be an issue i change it evert 2 years and dont skimp get a good one
else you will yet loads of false alarms, and they dont reset when the problem is fixed you will need to get
as diag tool

iv had the car since new and its served me well
now has 185000 kn

hope this dont frighten you away

Not quite sure you meant to quote me.
I am not saying there are not good 1s out there, and owners that look after them.

I was just saying remove the risk and get the V8.

Totally agree regarding the engine choices, for me if I won the lotto would get the N/A 5.0 V8 D4

Saying that I’ve never owned a FFRR and would like to at least own one in my life time , believe the L322 2011 is the one to go for as it has the 8 x speed ZF gearbox

Would be nice to compare a D4 to a FFRR in there ride quality / comfort

Also to add I wouldn't be surprised if many land rovers that arnt Ulez complaint are starting to be sold throughout areas of the uk that aren’t under similar regulations

See some that are supposed to be sent to Ukraine,
