So had a bit of a measure up on the new (old) bracket, Its about 35mm to far back to fit straight on with the standard alternator.

Same bracket I have sat in the spares box, also got a drilled plate one which will be the one I use for now as it was the one on it originally
 
Small update, Won a bid on ebay for a 100a alternator and got them today!?

Result!
Just gota change the pullys now!
 
Is it possible to put V belt pulleys on them?!?! :eek:

I only need/want one alternator (so far) but when you have put many detailed pics up of your install I may be forced to copy you :)
 
Even so, would be interested to see if you can swap the pulley then maybe I'll just use a 100/120A etc in the original position.

Not sure if my noisy 70A will make another winter... :p

Wonder if the Lucas type alternator (v belt) has the same/similar shaft to a Bosch (serp) ?

Or if you can only get an aftermarket?

That said, Bosch alternators are common enough that you should find something to fit one!

Ill get a few measurements when I look at them, I'm pretty sure i have a Lucas one on atm.
I will need to try and match the gearing mind you, is there a reason you don't want to over drive them, apart from causing extra work due to the gearing?
 
Yeah if you under drive it you get better top end bhp (negligible of course seeing as the alternator is regulated output anyway) and if you over drive it you will get better low rpm output, again, regulated top end so it will never over volt and the rpms doesn't matter either, your wheezy 5500rpm (peak shift is about 4700 anyway on stock cam) RV8 is nothing compared to a 8k Honda of the same era, so if anything, if you're winching, aim for an over drive.

It'll put more strain on your belt system but you will make more amperage at low rpms.
 
Just had 5 seconds to look with a tape measure, they shafts on the Lucus and these 2 new (2nd hand) all look to be 17mm.
 
Should be easy enough to work out how much you have overdriven it by connecting a tacho to the alternator and a tacho to the coil and the rpm difference is an approximate over drive percentage :)
