Now question, which cars was this fitted to?

Our disco 3.5 all had the left hand/nearside bracket whereas I think sd1 and thus some early rangey had the right hand/offside bracket but I could never pinpoint exactly what vehicles. I think I would enjoy twin alternator if the bits came up but tbh I don't really need one.

Oh and small thing, remember cars are handed from a seated position so this is a right hand bracket, whereas disco 3.5 has a left hand bracket, that also takes care of the power steering pump.

Yea I know /facepalm i always forget and do it as if you were looking from the front, its the SD1 1976-1986
 
Question:

Will the sd1 alternator bracket fit the land rover timing cover?

Or is that the whole point, this belt fits??

Do you need an aircon spec twin V water pump pulley?
 
if you look at this link http://www.numcat.ru/landrover/p/31/53354/
it shows the alternator as the very left puly, the tensioner is removed as the alternator takes care of the tensioning, and the belt goes round the crank + water pump + new alternator, the original (passenger side, left, ns) alternator goes to the power steering pully and then the power steering pump has another belt to the crank.

crank pulley is a little shorter and water pump pulley is skinnier from the looks of things on my bits
 
Yeah we'll that was my concern, sd1 front cover brings the water pump closer to the offside head, but I'm not sure about spacing from the front block face.

I have an sd1 cover here so could check.
 
Regards the twin v pulley, I was getting confused with the aircon system, being land rover specific it uses another belt and another tensioner to connect to the existing water pump setup, just the water pump has a double pulley fitted.

Perhaps that method was chosen to facilitate a ratio change.
 
Oh I was going to mention, if it is a case of it sitting closer to the block as per the older v8, you could space it out a bit proving you get it lined up good.
 
Yeah I mean anything is possible once you've got the basic bracket in place etc.

So much easier to go serpentine :D
