Before you all jump up and down I've spent almost an hour searching for the answer to my next question.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can run a cable (seven core trailer cable) from the dash to my roof lights that is unobtrusive and secure? If I have to drill a hole in the roof how can I make it watertight? Any ideas from those peeps that have done this? I've spent all afternoon coming up with ideas then shooting them down for one reason or another.

Cheers

you can run cables up the corner of the windscreen, behind the trim piece.
why do you need 7 core ffs? you should only need 4 at most - wire the lights in pairs, so you need 2 switched live and 2 earths.
just drill a nole in the corner of the roof, just below the gutter and seal it with clear silicone. I've got loads of holes in my roof and none of em leak.

why do you want to use 7 core cable????
i used 1 3 core cable that gave me 2 lives and 1 earth
2 lives so i can use 2 relays ran it up the inside of the widscreen trim inside the cab driled a hole in the roof and then siliconed around it.
i then linked the cable thru each light in one side and out the other this kept it all nice and neat and i only used 1 3 core cable not a chunky 7 core.

Easy way of goin thru the roof is t use a 20mm stuffin gland with IP washer.
Alternatively get yersen some plaggy flexy conduit 16mm and saddles an run it up the outside yer windscreen edge.;)

problem with that it it will look cack
and you got to get the wires to the conduit on the outside so this will mean drilling holes in the windscreen posts or somewhere else

Seven core because I've got 10 metres of the stuff laying around.
Lights are going on the fron rail of my roof rack and I cant see an obvious place to drill a hole below the gutter near the front.
I was going to go thru the roof behind the interior light so the cable came out in the middle just in front of the sun roof. I suppose I could use a decent grommet and some clear silicone?

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I'll have another goos look 2moro but it looks like a hole sealed with silicone is the usual option.
The reason I thought about making the hole near the centre of the roof is because the local kids think its hillarious to cut cables and snap aerials on the cars around here. The little f**kers cut the cables to the spotlights on my Volvo and used the broken aerial to scratch their stupid tags in to the paint on my bonnet.

Also was going to use 7 core so I could get fancy with the switching and wire them in pairs but with the option of half power or full power by connecting in series or parallel. Probably too much effort so will find some decent three core and stop ****ting about.

you wont notice a bit of conduit slapped on the outside of your motor?

You a ****in parrot or summat ???

Its a landy !!! No yer won't notice it, Its 16mm dia and stands proud about 20mm from yer windo edge when in the saddles.;)

but then if yer gunner wanna be descrete yer'll not wanna be boltin **** loads o lights on yer LANDYroof !

what has being discrete gotta do with slapping some conduit on the outside of your motor?
roof lights installed correctly are never gonna be discrete but thats not why you install them
installing the wiring that runs them is where you aim to be discrete
