Hi guys,

My fuel tank started ****ing out diesel onto the road. Managed to get it home but the green flag chap said he can't see anything without removing it. Was wondering if it's a easy job to remove so I can have a look and if anyone know of a common fault? Not sure what has caused it and doubt it's the tank as I've only been road driving?
 
Mine was diagnosed with a leaking fuel tank but it turned out to be the fuel lines from the pump in the tank to the filter housing. If it leaks all the time probably is the tank but my money would be on the fuel lines which only leak when the pump is running. Cost for the line kit from LR is about £130 plus fitting. There are various write ups which suggest removing the tank but my local garage did it without and charged me two hours labor.

Cheers guys, I'm hoping this is the case. I'm actually going to get a LR fuel tank for my trip so if the tank is gone not the worst. More expense though and I'm glad it happened when Tyne fuel light was on and not like when my injector went and came loose with a full tank
 
I have the same problem here - fortunately it failed to start on the drive rather than in town!

As others have said - if it's the tank there will be diesel dripping continuously - if it's the pipes it will only leak when you try and turn it over.

Looks like a crap job - I'm waiting for the weather to improve before tackling it!

Alas I may be in luck, after it finally stopped raining I started her again and the fuel pump makes a noise and started leaking. Hopefully the lines or the pump!
 
One tip before you start fretting about dropping the tank, access to the fuel pump and the top of the tank can be gained through a circular plate in the rear floor.
The screws might be a bit rusted but I'd give it a try first.
 
That was how they did my fuel pipes. Carpet up and remove inspection cover. Was only charged two hours labour is apparently "a pig of a job" but no need to remove the tank.
