Omg , I had to take a double take as indeed that’s the first I’ve seen one like that

Hope I don’t mind asking but have U posted that over on the D3 forum

Thks for sharing and just wonder why it’s gone like that ,

Fcuk me I would run for the hills!

You will have to take the compressor off for the welder to get in there.

When was the last mot?

No mention of rust. But it was all hidden I suppose

It's all fixable and you would be as well to fix this one up and get it back to good health, at least you'd then have a solid base to keep maintained and on the road.

Better the devil you know an all that ;)

Welders been, nice bloke. I used him to weld the gearbox x member on my D2 couple of years ago.

Outer sill is gone 2/3 of the way so he's gonna bend me a new section, let new metal in the inner sill where needed and patch those holes. £280

Edit - r.e sill, the whole sill is being cut out and he's fab'ing up a replacement for me.

Round it off to £300 an keep him watered an it'll be golden :)

Especially for coming out in this weather as well! Pencilled in for the weekend weather depending, he showed me where to cut the sill to make a start, I need to strip front arch liner out and drop compressor in meantime. Any tips for that @gstuart ?

£280 to patch a sill and you have to make the cuts ?

Im in the wrong job !

The last discovery sill i patched i patched with a brand new inner and outer sill.
Reckon i should start taking on work like this if thats what it pays.

Come and do mine them, I'll pay you £10 and as much tea as you can drink. I think its reasonable I was braced for £350+

I asked if there was anything I can do to prep, I don't mind helping him and paying the man for the skill I ain't got.

Bit more to a D3 tbf

I wouldnt consider the work you need to do to your disco as major as taking out the entire sill of a D1.
Admitted its in an akward position but its not bad really.

Ive done a lot of welding on mates vehicles and only charged 20 or 30 quid to cover gas !

I need to re-evaluate my charges LOL.

This was a KA i did and the current project a vauxhall brava,
This is the front chassis where the body mounts to it. i ended up remaking the entire front cross member.
