£280 to patch a sill and you have to make the cuts ?

Im in the wrong job !

The last discovery sill i patched i patched with a brand new inner and outer sill.
Reckon i should start taking on work like this if thats what it pays.
how long did it take you , the welding is the simple bit its the rest that takes the time

Thank you James but ive been restoring and welding old scrap vehicles for over 28 years, i worked in a body jigging shop for five years repairing and rebuilding accident damaged cars, vans and lorries so i think im well aware of what goes into a repair job.
Im 51 not some 30 year old newbie whos just bought a welder and thinking how cool it would be to smash a few back handers out over the week end .

At present im a roofer and general builder, I also hire out my JCB which is kept in this workshop which is paying business rates, As for planning that was sorted when i built the workshop.
The building is bigger than the bungalow i live in.

Im looking at slowing down due to health issues hence considering doing some thing ive enjoyed since i was at school, working with metal from home.

As for how did it take me ? which vehicle ?

The brava ? ive bought that about two months ago and started it last month.
Its been a stocking filler job done in my spare time. Ive got a few bits of welding on the body work to sort out and its back on the road.

The red disco i fully renovated was about 6 months again another stocking filler job but that was a major strip down and full rebuild.
The defender about 6 months again a stocking filler job and full renovation.
My mates transit took about 10 days, it should have got scrapped but its a good van so i saved it.
Another mates transit which he did pay me for took about 6 days, Again it was scrap when it came to me and left passing its MOT with out any advisories.

Ive lost count of the vehicles ive rebuilt over the years .

I hope this helps you understand what im about and what can be expected of my workmanship .

planning in that you need to get permission for change of use to turn a building into a business workshop, ive no doubt you can do the job its the optimism with pricing, 280 for fitting a sill isnt expensive or in many cases viable

The workshop went through planning as a business premises, Its not a small two car garage mate and was never intended as such.

Its not pretty but it is solid (enough) it'll stand a wire brush and treatment, see how it goes.

Starting to enjoy myself

Nice 3cx dont see many early ones in that condition
Cheers. I bought it last year to replace the ol clonker i had.

It cost me five and a half grand to have a new king post and carriage fitted at TCH.
Ive given the boom, bonnet and front axle a coat of paint but you wouldnt tell now its got dirt all over it :)
My plans are to strip the cab off it and give the rest a good going over and new paint.

Its a decent machine and fun to drive.
A few jobs recently knocked down part of a house and last week some land clearance.

Strange how its eaten one side worse than others, almost as it its been parked on sea front with 1 side facing the coast any idea where its originally come from? i think if you put the log book number in the mot history check you can guess what area its from if you dont know from service history

The Brava im doing was worse on the off side than the near side side.
I was thinking it picks up more road salt from the gutter .....

Hmm

Struggling to get suspect driveshaft out, so ive drained the diff oil, bear in mind it aint been that long since it was drained and refilled and drain plug cleaned....

Seems a lot of swarf there to me

All I can say as you are saying you can’t pull the shaft out?
Maybe the spline is gone in the diff end not the thioridazine end. Maybe you need to ensure diff don’t turn and then slightly pull then turn a bit.
Thinking is maybe splines fuboared but still some good poking through (does that make sense?) so not lined up.

Makes perfect sense and what I'm hoping.

I've split the driveshaft at inner joint to get some purchase
Is this abnormal colouring?

One of the 3 bearings in the joint is noisy when you spin it

Yeah but,but that’s the short side?
Thought the problem was with the long side? (Where’s that confused face) I have lost track a bit.

You got to pull the other side now me thinks:(

When I had it running in the air, the short side wasn't turning and inner joint was grumbling. Checked the joint, one of the rollers is a bit noisy but no play on the splines that hold the joint

I hate to say it then :(

Is it the diff that’s the problem? Just throwing it around as I thought it was the long shaft.

I get confused easily being a LHDrivey

And as for the colouring, no idea:oops:.

Don’t jump in think first. Poke that shaft back in and do some tests maybe.
Both wheels up, turn each both ways.
One wheel up can you turn, do both sides.

I don’t want to send you down the wrong track/ taking **** apart.
If you put that triiod joint together on the bench does it turn both ways regardless of angle(I reckon it does)
