Filled up at Texaco (standard diesel) instead of Sainsbury's, averages about 1.5mpg more according to computer.....:)

I fill the little 1.6 Pug 206 up with super unleaded and it's getting 41mpg now from fill up to fill up as opposed to 37mpg on regular, starts an runs better too, easily justifies the extra cost :)

Towing the van to barmouth for Easter, I'll fill up with super dooper diesel, be a good run to get it thru the system :)

I used shell vpower unleaded in my vectra 2.2, that was 4mpg better like your pug

It pays for itself in my opinion as I no longer have to run a bottle of fuel system treatment through it every 3 tanks.

My van gets regular derv as they get the hump and text me when I fill it up with the good stuff as it's 10p/ltr dearer but if they did the fuel consumption figures I think they'll find that it pays you back in the long run :)

I'm going to be in Newmarket/March/a comer over Easter, want to take the Discovery but unless I pull my finger out it won't be ready in time

Lot of people don't believe in it but I'm sure it makes cars run smoother and obviously fuel consumption is better. My gaffer used to moan when I had a van, daft git couldn't do the maths

That loom that sits by the passenger door is normally when the alarm remote doesn’t respond anymore, is 3 x green wires that need remaking

Quoting you from another thread mate to save confusion on that one!

I've read this particular embuggerance can cause key fob to lock/unlock central locking when it feels like it. I've got this now and again, am I right in thinking key fob battery is first port of call or is it worth lifting the treadplate and having a look?

Hi mate

Here’s a link for u ref that splice

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/cent...e-splice-103468.html?highlight=Key+fob+splice

Also need to check the pollen filter to ensure it’s not wet

The key fob is induction , therefore it recharges when u put the key in the ign

Believe if u put the key near an electric toothbrush charger it will recharge the key for u

Another thing , if u unlock ur landy without opening any doors, after a little while the doors will automatically relock , that is part of the security system

Alternate the keys , also there’s a key rebuild service on the D3 forum if the battery keeps going flat

Is urs doing the same, always happy to help where I can

Cheers mate! Will check splice and pollen filter when I get 5.

Knew about key being induction but that's funny with toothbrush charger lol

I can leave it unlocked all night and it won't have locked itself by morning.....

Rain here this morning, cycled ignition had air suspension fault on dash  turned off and on again it had gone :D doesn't like the wet, like me

Plus meant to say the gap iid Bluetooth versions comes up for sale second hand on the D3 forum, approx £320 , fantastic bit of kit

Plse let us know how things go and always a pleasure to help where I can

Pleasure mate

Here’s a link for new iid, £405 , the Bluetooth version is the one to have and works through ur iPad or iPhone

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/sale-gap-iid-bluetooth-tool-40500-plenty-stock-172779.html

This is the for sale section , there is one going at the moment but he wants £350 which I think is expensive for second hand

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/fs-parts-vf85.html

Cheers dude, agree a bit dear for used. I always go by about half price rule if used, buying and selling :)

Suspect I need to get diff squared away first then save for a month or 2 for Gap ;)

Liking the black and silver logos, I'll do the front when I can pinch the wife's hairdryer to heat the glue on the old badge :D

All important work this :p

Went past a chap in a D2 on the m6 this morning. Limping thru the roadworks to Stafford services with his o/s/r on the bump stop, missus, kids and bootful :(

Pulled in services and waited for him, they were all ok. He said the air spring went with a bang  travelling to Oxfordshire so he was sorting recovery. 2nd time it's happened, I said maybe height sensors or compressor..?

Said he'd had enough of 'these old land rovers' and it would be fixed and sold on :( doesn't work on it himself so it's big cost to him. Shame! I was gonna laud the D3 but didn't wanna tempt fate and it was still too raw for him :D

Anyway, some interior pics now it's kind of clean enough

20190413_190040.jpg 20190413_190043.jpg 20190413_190111.jpg 20190413_190159.jpg 20190413_190227.jpg

Its worn quite well I think

That poor bloke, but in all honesty running any older motor and not working on it yourself is going to become expensive at some point as they become more maintenance intensive with age.

The myth of poor reliability of old Land Rovers is pretty much that, a myth, now the newer vehicles post 2000 is far more believable as they have become far more complicated than they need have been for a motor vehicle, but it's progress they keeps telling me. But I always found that a great many D2s/D3s etc, that get a bad reputation for reliability have done so for lack of preventative maintenance and poor servicing or ham fisted at home bodgery, I have seen a few D3s in scrap yards now that have been scrapped for the electronic gremlins getting in there and the costs of auto sparks spiral out of control as owners often don't know one end of a multi-meter from the other and have no choice but to pay and it can get out of hand fast if the auto sparks don't know how the systems work to start with. The older the better and just get handy with the welder :)

Having not been in the cab of a D3 for a number of years I'd forgotten what a pleasant place to be it is :)

Fair play to the disco, it's got us away 3 times dragging the van with a dodgy front diff, got back from barmouth today and started having a poke around.
20190419_153822.jpg

Front diff drain plug, nothing out of this world I don't think?
20190419_160818.jpg

Oil looks good, forgot to get pic.

Off road height setting, pull fuse 26, 2 axle stands a side, rear wheels chocked and front wheels under the car!

Someone left a present for me, can you see it? Zoom in
20190419_153843.jpg

So, I've got it safely jacked up on stands, wheel off and plusgas'd the fook out of anything I might need to undo. Then I fired up the bbq :D

The o/s upper control arm ball joint's rubber boot is split and definitely needs replacing. Can the ball joint be replaced on the drive?
20190419_163844.jpg

Although, there is some slight play in upper control arm bushes both sides, so thinking I might as well just change them while I'm in there. Lowers look and feel good thank fook! I think they've been done already...

Are the uppers bolts eccentric or whatever, will it mess with tracking or can I just swap em out?

Reckon I'll have diff out tomorrow EDIT.. will I bollox, im at a wedding  with help of @Nodge68 guide and picking best bits of haynes manual :p i think new upper control arms and arb drop links (rubbers are cracking and starting to perish) while I'm in there. Always something else to do  reckon she deserves a bit of tarting up under there, à la @gstuart ;)

Thanks mate, so front uppers, no need to go for wheel alignment? I have got uneven wear on n/s/f though iirc...

Yep will get decent stuff mate, what's that place that are popular for d3 parts etc? Advanced something?

Not done breather yet, am gonna do it with all this in one fell swoop lol

Always happy to help mate

As you’ve got tyre wear I would take it for alignment after you’ve done the arms, u don’t normally with the front upper but I would this time

Yes advanced are very good, island also are sometimes cheaper

If ur going to buy something plse ask on here and we can tell u what is the best source

Look forward to the piccies plse

It's always appreciated Gary, all joking aside I actually took the plunge on a D3 cuz you're on here!

Will take for alignment then, might be off the road for a couple of weeks due to extra bits needed and depending on what verdict is on diff. Need to scrape some funds together.

So after diff is sorted one way or another I need

Front upper arms
Front drop links

And a wheel alignment  I always use these if anyone wants a recommend. Hope they don't turn a D3 away!

Ill try and get a few pics mate but it won't be a walk through, I'll be like a blue arsed fly :D
