Will take for alignment then, might be off the road for a couple of weeks due to extra bits needed and depending on what verdict is on diff. Need to scrape some funds together.

So after diff is sorted one way or another I need

Front upper arms
Front drop links

And a wheel alignment :confused: I always use these if anyone wants a recommend. Hope they don't turn a D3 away!

Found a discount code in disco3 forum so £175 for meyle HD drop links and LR upper arm kit.

Must admit I would be tempted to go genuine , especially on the suspension, I done the same as I didn’t want to do it again in a hurry , at least u then know it’s quality parts

There are some differences on the drop links according to which year , so have a quick look on ur d3 to see which ones they are and match on the web site

Also fitted the hd meyle drop links when I fitted new front struts

Must admit it’s amazing how much knowledge I’ve gained in the last 3 x years , also good as I’ve been able to run things past lynall and nodge

Also don’t care how long it takes for me to search for info , always happy to do so in helping a fellow disco owner

Must admit when I fitted new front struts and the rear uppers it transformed the ride, was like a new vehicle

Couldn’t get over how smooth it was considering it was a Land Rover

From what I’ve seen the chassis do well on the D3/4 , think having side steps can become abit of a water trap on the sills , or behind the wheel arch liners in the corner , mud etc collects there, when I took all mine out it was all solid metal which was a massive relief

Know they need some care but defentely my favourite landy so far

What do u think of the D3 now you’ve had urs a while plse

Agree r.e chassis, plenty of surface rust under mine but that's all it is. It's absolutely solid, wire brush, clean down and quick paint will see it good again.

As a family of four with a dog, the caravan which we use a lot and we're always out and about on bikes and all sorts it's absolutely fantastic. If we kept the D2 we'd probably be happy but the way things panned out we ended up with the D3. So comfortable and easy to live with. It's made towing a pleasure, the defender was HARD work as a daily and even though it could tow 3500kg it never felt easy. I get why people love their tratters but they ain't for us as a family. The D3 just owns it, we traveled 3hrs back from barmouth today and didn't stop once for a break and mine's not even a top spec! Defo see us in a D4 HSE in the future when funds allow!

Really couldn't be happier with it, I know they're not cheap to maintain properly but what land rover is? Hopefully no big nasty surprises in store, im hoping it's just the diff bearings rather than the gears I'm quietly confident it is lol.

Just need a set of roof bars and cycle carriers now, maybe a dog guard to keep stuff in boot away from us, dog sits between kids on back seat lol

But yeah mate, really impressed with it so far, think the separate body on chassis construction gives a lot of the comfort and the suspension is brilliant even though it's probably not 100% up to scratch at the moment. 10/10 would buy one again lol

Thinking about it, it's 13 years old and the interior has worn really well, bit of a rattle from upper glove box but some foam tape will cure that. It feels really well put together and the plastics are decent quality. Definitely a turning point for LR, I love the old stuff and the defenders but they came up with a fookin good car with the D3

Pinzgauer for sale, worked on armoured versions of these for the Danish military as an apprentice at S. Macneillie in walsall. This one was an ammo resupply in the Malaysian army. Asking £26k!

Nice 1995 Tdi 90 county, had a weird tubular addition just behind front bumper. Can just make it out on this pic. Plenty of lacquer peel on roof from the sun!

This mornin', I has been mostly doin' driveshaft removal ;)

Nearside all came apart lovely, driveshafts on the bench, ain't had a look at it properly but looks ok to me LMAO
Got upper ball joint and drop link finger tight holding knuckle in place for now

Offside was a right bitch, brake flexi bracket bolt was completely mullered so I've had to cut it off. Even the irwin sockets wouldn't grip it :eek: ill have to drill it out and retap the thread. Give me something to do while im waiting for parts :rolleyes: driveshafts out at hub end though

Upper ball joint was completely seized up, could not get Allen key to grip in the spindle the nut was rust welded tight. After about an hour struggling that got the grinder treatment as well :rolleyes:

Got a wedding to go to now, tomorrow's plan is offside driveshaft at diff end, front prop and diff out before I go to mom's for lamb dinner :)

Looks like ur having so much fun and indeed I found that where previous people have had a go and rounded bits off

I found using a dremel with the flexi hose a great little tool to have , will zip through drop links in no time at all

It is fun ain't it :p plus you know exactly what's been done and can have a good look see while you're under there :eek:

Have found that with working on these landys, you always need some other tool, sometimes easily justified to the better half :D

ABS sensors are good mate, although pad wear sensor is broken on nearside. Hasn't affected anything though that I've noticed.

Forgot about that by the next day when we were down the harbour!

Disco defo better for us than a tratter, love em as I do. One of the reasons I got rid of the defender was amount of time spent on spanners, should've got an amarok :rolleyes:

Can't wait to get this diff sorted so I can get out on some lanes, was tempted to find some on trailwise2 when I was there but had half a mind on getting us back!
 
****in ayda, about 3hrs spent on it today but it's out!

No o ring on this face for axle tube, was only on very early models I think unless diff has been changed already!

Undid propshaft both ends but needn't have bothered, had enough room to wiggle. Next time I'll slacken the prop bolts while it's still on its wheels. I marked the position on the flange as well

Sure it's been off before, rtv feckin everywhere and theres a prop bolt snapped in the diff flange :mad:

Time to crack it open, I've spun the flange round I can't hear or feel much but sure the offside bearing is making a bit of noise

Ok , gears look good to me. No damage on leading edges, bit of an oily paste. Not gonna lie I'm out my depth here but I can't see anything obvious!

Offside bearing, that has to put up with the longer driveshaft, is a bit sorry looking and sounds rougher than my mother in law after a night on the pìss.

Yeah it's fooked ain't it!

Feeling pretty lucky unless I've missed something?? Has anyone got a part number for that bearing and do i just pull it with one of those universal pullers? EDIT its alright ive found @Nodge68 thread again!

Any advice gratefully received!

Great pics mate and the thing I’ve found with the D3 the parts are very HD

Indeed @Nodge68 is the man ref the axle , sorry I can’t help as I’ve never had to do one and know nodge is the guru when it comes to these and very knowledgeable

Have u had to buy many more tools , know I had to buy quite a few more HD tools
