Help..I need a good mechanic for my newly acquired p38..electrics seem to hve the major issue...ooh and battery keeps going flat yet it's new...alternator has been changed though...I live in se London so someone that's not too expensive in the same location pleeease....it's a 1995..2.5 diesel...thank yu

Check out your R/F receiver see which model you have. Could be picking up spurious signals, relocking front doors and resetting alarm. This will burn out the front locks pretty quickly. Do a search there are multiple posts on this subject :D

As above, it will most likely be the RF receiver for the FOB, replace it quick before it burns the locks.

Go with dataleks advice and disconnect the aerial wire off the rf unit asap. Mine burnt the door locks out before i took the advice off here.
If it helps ,my p 38 was great in work,I travel a lot but every morning she had no battery life, changed the battery, same problem, had the alternnaator checked ,ok, took the aerial wire off,no more problems, apparently the rf was picking up wireless router signals from where i park her at night.
Hope it helps

With the age of his R/R he can disconnect the R/F completely and use the key till he either buys the latest R/F receiver (£240) or mod as I did (£2.99):D:D:D

The mod will stop the battery going flat, but it's no guarantee that operating the FOB will activate the locks if the receiver is so far gone that it's picking up any random signal.

It may be picking up the signals but they are not going anywhere until the second remote is activated so completing the R/F to BECM circuit.

Yes, I understand that, my point is that if the RF receiver has gone soft, when you complete the circuit with your second remote, there is no guarantee that the LR FOB will lock/unlock the car if the RF receiver is failing to discriminate between signals.

Guess I was just lucky then. I disconnected my R/F years ago and had been using the key till Brian planted the seed of a cheap fix. Still working fine, only problem I had was when I returned to the car carrying some shopping, you need both hands to operate the two remotes simultaneously :)

I agree in most circumstance it will work fine, you just need to be aware that a time amy come when stray signals will prevent the FOB unlocking the car. You can of course still use the key and EKA.

Sometimes forget I have done the mod and I use the key. Never had to use the EKA.
