Well... Where do we start ?! A combination of house moves, overseas work commitments and of course COVID 19 have somewhat delayed the progress of this build. However all is not lost and progress is beginning again at long last.
In the last update i was repairing the rusted components of the stripped chassis and was preparing to send the chassis for blasting and painting. Well this has now been completed. It was £600 for Chassis, 2 x axle casings and radius arms to be blasted, primed and top-coated in black for peoples awareness. I have found that trying to obtain rough prices for build planning hard so i will be honest with costs to try and assist people when budgeting for their own projects.
Once painted i set about rebuilding the rear axle complete. I have replaced for new Stub axles, Hubs, Discs, callipers, brake disc shields, brake pads, ABS sensors, axle breather pipe and bolts for most components. i have kept the driveshafts and Differential from pre restoration as these are in a good condition however i do intend to fit an Ashcroft LSD in the future. I have just decided to wait on this so i can get on with other parts of the build and really move it forward. Diff replacement is a nice easy job in retrospect.
The biggest pain i have had is that 3 of the threaded studs in the axle casing fell out (no idea how) - these are a push it bolt with star splines to line up and were a PITA to get back in. In the end i used a G clamp to press the studs back in and this worked in the end but took some graunching.

Points to note
- Have a bearing drive tool to hand when installing the hub seals and bearings as this makes installation a lot easier
- Make sure you have HIGH temp bearing specific grease for packing into the wheel bearings and not just multipurpose grease
- take the extra tie to tape up thread holes and abs sensor slots before painting - I have had to rethread holes and dremmel out slots to clear paint overspray and i can assure that it takes a lot longer than taking the time to prep the tape properly !
- ensure the brake shield are facing the right way - they are L/R handed and will not allow access for abs sensor if fitted the wrong way around.
