hi chaps
my newly acquired 300tdi has a random head unit and im wondering if there is a cd/mp3 unit that will work with the steering wheel controls?
cheers :)

Yes there are but you will have to purchase a patch lead to interface the head unit with the steering wheel controls.

Only head units that have the 'jack' input at the rear will accept the signals via the additional patch lead will work and make sure you can get a lead suitable for your disco. All the ICE shops/suppliers sell the kit so just Google.

thanks for that any idea where i can get one? and will it enable me to use any wireless i like?

I think you'll find that you need to buy a head unit that supports steering wheel/remote operation, as well as a patch lead.

I would be going to your local car radio place for advice.

Ps If you are talking about using the dashboard-mounted switches on the binnacle to operate the radio, you should be aware that they are NOTORIOUSLY unreliable.

Ahh probably best to ignore them then, just a thought really :)

That's the best plan. Get yourself a nice medium quality radio/CD maybe with a memory card slot or a usb slot - if you have your music on your computer as it makes it dead easy to put it into the car.

I've purchased 2 or 3 Clarion or Kenwood sets off Ebay that have worked really well.
