Changed viscous fan for a working one but it still won't kick in... The top of rad is getting hot, as is both hoses, but the rad is only getting warm...

So there is no flow. Check the pipe from the top of the RAD to the expansion tank is not blocked, you may have an airlock. Otherwise a failed water pump or stat. Water pumps with the plastic impeller break up and/or the impeller slips on the shaft. Stats stick.

I'm thinking possibly air lock.. What's best way to sort that?
As I said, check the little pipe from the RAD to the expansion tank is clear, there should be a small flow out of it all the time when the stat is open. Run with the expansion cap off while you are bleeding the air out and rapidly squeeze and release the top hose to encourage the air to come out. Air bleeds out better if the nose of the car is raised slightly.

Tried that

It's bubbling like mad in the header tank with cap off tho

Have you put in antifreeze/coolant?
Without it,it will bubble alittle, look at your kettle! It starts with lots of little bubbles long before it boils properly
Whats your waterpipes like with the cap on?
Also agree with above a sniff test will put you mind at ease

I put in a 50/50 mix

I think I may be inclined to go down the boiling route... As it starts off slow after been running a few mins then more and more bubbles as minutes go on, as a kettle would

Also once I turn off the engine I can hear it boiling inside the pipes

I'm thinking water pump was the problem all along....

Heaters also blow cold on hottest setting

No flow, same answers, airlocked, or water pump, or stat.

I put in a new stat but it was a ****part one as that's all they had in at the time

Check it! half of the ****epart ones dont work
It you pull off the thin pipe at the top left of the rad(looking in to it) whilst the engine is runing it should pump water out and when warm should be hot

did you check the rads baffle was in place before you fitted it?

I tried that but it just kept steaming and bubbling in tank was pushing water out the top of tank

Hate to say it but it might be worth checking the dipstick every so often - if the oil starts to emulsify or go grey then you have a very duff head or headgasket. I change my rad recently and had none of the problems you are describing
